Default Missing 18 year POC

Have y’all heard about the 18 year young man missing in POC ? From what I understand he was running a boat in the ICW between Charlie’s and the Sanctuary. Report I heard was he ran into a barge and went overboard and had not surfaced . Happened yesterday evening or last night sometime.

Went out of Seadrift today on a duck hunt. Passed very near the site this AM. Several vessels searching in the dark. Our guide told us what happened. Sobering and a very sad deal.

From what I’m hearing the boat was out of fuel and they were drifting in the ICW . Barge ran them over .

I have talked to family and friends in area. Was told it happened right at Sanctuary. If out of gas and waiting they wouldn’t be floating in middle of ICW. They said it was on a airboat. And airboats are really only on speed it seems. Wonder if they pulled out of Sanctuary and into the side of a barge- They are hard to see at night unless you are in front of behind- or could be one of those they navigated looking at GPS which is becoming common

Those things are possible but I’m thinking if they were trying to make it back when they ran out of gas then it is possible they were floating in the middle of the ICW

I work on barges several times a month . It’s amazing how quiet those big jokers move through the water . I can definitely see how someone could run into one in dark . That area is notorious for having bad sea fog . Not sure if that was a factor or not . Very tragic accident.

A buddy and I were slowly cruising down the ICW in Sargent one night after fishing till dark. I had my lights on and were just talking when I heard the sound of water slapping a metal hull. I looked back and maybe 10 yards behind us was a huge barge. I clocked the steering wheel to the left and shoved the throttle all the way down. We shot over to the far shoreline and then he lit us up with his spot light and horn. I don't think he saw us until we shot off to the left. If I didn't look back at that moment he would have crushed my 22 foot bay boat and us with it.

I can tell you it is ABSOLUTELY possible to run an airboat under a barge parked along the edge of the ICW.

we did it heading to east matty one morning in the fog. To this day I don't know how we made it out from under it without the prop cage hitting it. I may have been 12 or 13 and can see the belly of that barge like it was last week

I have had two really hairy barge experiences with an airboat on the Mississippi. It can happen so easy.

The only thing I have heard is they found his hat . Hearing someone brought out their helicopter to help search today . Family or friends of the family have requested people with drones to come help . Waiting on coast guard or someone else to bring in sonar .I will probably hear more tomorrow. Few co-workers knows the family.

From Hunter's mother 3 hours ago....

"We as a family are so incredibly grateful for everyone reaching out to volunteer their talents and time for bringing Hunter home. I will just let everyone know what the officials are letting us know as of 1/29/23. They are continuing their efforts with equipment that will be very beneficial in the search. They have expressed that extensive boat activity near where they are working might hinder this effort. So if you are in a boat and see the officials working that area, please steer clear until they are done with that area. As far as divers, it is a safety caution to just dive at will. It has been explained to us that if the officials pick up a target area they will send in their divers. We don’t want anyone to get hurt with the amount of traffic in the ICW and also run the risk of interfering with the officials. We will be very grateful for help once all of the officials efforts have been exhausted. We will let you know. Again thank you!"
