I love it. I fly fish off of mine and it makes backwater and shallow stuff much easier to navigate

It's not really a "thing" but rather a different way to fish.
It's not for everybody, and some people use the kayak as just another way of exploring hard to get to waters or just to get off the bank, while others take it to the extreme and for the thrill.
As for myself, I fall into the first category!

We use the kayak and a sled(decoy boat) to transfer crab traps from the beach out into the surf. This way we can set the traps out in deeper water.

Awesome just being out on the water.
