Default GOF Rant - Academy Credit Card

I will not set foot in Cabelas for 2 reasons.

1st is business related
2nd is their little credit card pushers.

Well Academy has started this little trick to push their card...

You walk in and they stop you by asking if they can help you find anything. Seems nice enough but theyíve only stopped you so they can push their credit card on you next. Same guy tried it twice in a row. Second time I was onto him and pushed my cart thru his knee joint. (Not really but I wanted to)

Iím an Academy fan but Dangit man, I donít need financial advice/assistance from them. Just sell me crap that I can use.

No trickery!!

And get off my lawn.

Now a days I find if you cough and blow your nose in a handkerchief they walk away quickly.

I've not experienced what you described at Cabelas or Bass Pro. But I can't stand the Basspro Travel folks. They are in the same mix as the Wal-mart, "what cable plan do you have?"

So, I get what you're saying about enough already.

Sign up for their store credit card. It gets you 5% back on each purchase so might as well do it. Get the bill in each month and pay it off.
Then each time the guy greets you at the door, you simply tell him you already have the card.

Since we a ranting about academy. I can’t stand when I order something online and get an email saying that part of my order was canceled. If you can’t fulfill the order then don’t put the dang thing on your website.

I used to push the crap out of those Cabelas credit cards. It was an incentive for us, $15 a pop. I averaged over 50 a month for the two years I worked there. Such easy money. The right demographic was always waking in the door lol

They are owned by that holding company now. I asked the lady the other day what was the deal with pushing that crap on me. She said they make them do it. Kinda like valero push that big arse candy bar on you at check out.

just start walking in with your airpods in your ears like you are talking to somebody. nobody will talk to you.

I was a manager ar Cabelas. They got $80 for each card they got approved from the bank. It amounted to millions every year after they paid the juice to associates. Nobody does anything for nothing. Always ****** me of when store personnel push them on me, if I wanted it I would already have it, but I get why they do it... Just move on.

When ask what cable TV or internet I have the answer is "I don't own a TV or computer". I believe they get the message I'm not interested or are simply confused and that ends the discussion. Same as the big box stores asking about HVAC check up "I don't believe in AC".

With the Directv/Dish guys, when they ask me what TV service I have, I proceed to tell them, with a very serious face that I think TV is evil, etc. The look on their face is great. Then I break character and we have a laugh. Also, if you walk in fast with a serious look, 9 times out of 10 you're home free.

I think some people just look more approachable than others. I noticed about 4-5 years ago I guess I've gotten to a point people no longer approach me for anything. Doesn't bother me

OP just get the card! I have cabelas and Academy cards. Only use them when I make a purchase there. Then pay off each time. Boosts credit score and have credit in case an emergency happena.

I've denied the academy card somewhere north of 100 times now. Same with the guy selling windows leaving Sam's, vacations at Bass Pro, etc.

I did buy girl scout cookies outside HEB over the weekend, Boy Scout popcorn outside Lowe's a few months ago, and a softball coupon card at my front door. I like to reward the kids who are hustling.

Just get the card. It saves 5% on every purchase. I have one and pay it off every month.
Saves me 5% on stuff I was going to buy anyway. They will also mail you some coupons occasionally for even more off. It's a good card to have. They will still ask you when you go in the store but just say I already have one. Easy.

The most infuriating part for me is that if someone does decide to sign up for the card when they offer it at checkout, they just do the whole 20 minute process right there at the register and hold everybody else up that's just trying to get their s*** and leave.
