Locked down inside their classrooms. Metal door with HD latch and lock. Door stays locked. If it shuts the kids are locked inside. Elementary schools should also be locked down at the front. Most actually are. Someone either let him in or they didn’t have a system or it was broken. We will find out.

Kids are the result of bad parenting. My wife, retired pediatric office manager, has had to go to the waiting room and tell a parent they have to change the shirt to inside out. The reason was the front side said f### you. I have no answers, but adults are the problem. JMO once again.

Not sure it will stop the madness but definitely would curtail some of the damage. I’m sick for the community of Uvalde.

I know of one school in particular that has armed teachers in the elementary building. Its a small school in a rural area. For that matter middle and high school buildings have them also. When they armed one them armed them all.

                  Active shooter in Uvalde

I will add this. If a crazy person did go off in a common area full of kids the only shot I am comfortable taking is a contact shot because I dont get weekly range time. Im not allowed to have a gun at school. Even then in the moment shooting around running children sounds horrible. Head shots in a hostage situation or with frantic friendlies providing cover/concealment to the target require SRT/SWAT training. I will be dead on the ground before anyone kills one of my students. Im not special. Any real man would but our schools are not filled with a lot of men. Especially at the elementary level. College grad females go to those schools.

We have a problem in our society and its going to take strong men to stop it.

Don’t know how true but my wife said the shooter threatened something similar a year ago & was in an institution for some time.

I was watching breaking news reporting earlier and an FBI representative said that from all their research on mass shootings 77% give warnings & share their intent whether via social media or close family or friends

And to add our school district where our kids go are armed

Outstide of 4 years of Accounting I have an extensive career in LE/Military/Security. 4 different positions directly with the Federal govt and multiple in private key resource and critical infrastructure with a force of almost 400 individuals armed and un armed and security budgets in the tens of millions annually. I have also been an active shooter scenario trainer with DHS, federal not local.

We are talking about SRT/SWAT training here. Most LE isn’t even trained to deal with the complex issues at hand of an active shooter/hostage scenario around hundreds to thousands of school children. Even the cops in the schools aren’t adequately trained or armed to deal with it. Physical security is key here and it seems this school failed. Probably due to population density and economic factors. You aren’t going to train, keep up with required continued training, and get multiple weekly range time to 24 and 60 year old women because thats what teachers are for the most part.

I have spent the last 3 years studying the situation carefully. I dont have time to write all the physical infrastructure security requirements needed to keep kids away from gunfire but trust me, arming teachers and getting them the required training is impossible. A good lockdown procedure along with the right physical security barriers at each classroom door is paramount.

Please dont take offense I did not mean any.

I think there is more active shooter training in LE than you think.

My wife was asked to move this school year to DAEP (District Alternative Education Program), which is the next step after ISS, as an alternative to long term suspension. The DAEP rooms (for HS and MS) are located in portable buildings across the street from the main HS building.

THREE of the kids that are currently in the DAEP classroom are there BECAUSE they made death threats at school.

I asked my wife to text the principal to find out what additional precautions and security is being provided for the last two days of school to avoid a copycat. He replied that they are providing additional security for the campus, but I'm concerned how much will be focused on the main campus building as opposed to the DAEP portables on the outskirts. There are times she's in the portables alone with the kids. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that these days.

My heart is sick for the people of Uvalde. Just like a lot of you I came from one of these small Texas towns. Almost everyone in town is related to the loss. Prayers tonight.

Instead she decided to go back into the classroom as a 4th grade teacher. Today a 4th grader at her school brought a knife to school, and almost got away with it because (some) teachers are afraid of the kids. If it weren’t for my wife, this kid would have gotten away with nothing done to him.

Kids in elementary schools are getting away with all kinds of horrific things all in the name of not hurting feelings and singling kids out. A few weeks ago in my wife’s 4th grade class, she was in a meeting while a substitute teacher was supposed to be watching the kids. Well, the sub stepped out of the classroom for a second, and a boy attacked a girl. Full on closed fist hit, and kicked her numerous times. The substitute didn’t do a thing. My wife escorted the boy to the principles office where he got ISS for a day, that’s it.

My wife has been verbally abused by parents too wanting grades to be changed. My wife reported it and was told by administration to change the kids grades!!!

This is why teachers are leaving at an alarming rate. This is not happening at one or two schools here and there, it is happening EVERYWHERE. Until we as a society starts taking responsibility for our own actions(everyone) then this will continue.

My prayers go out to those involved.

You are spot on sir. I teach and coach at the high school level and some that I work with treat these kids as if the run the show because they are scared of the repercussions from their parents.
