Hope you don't mind BT got a new thread going for this winter.
Dry dirt is put up and ready, we hope. Ordered a few new trap end of last year and they are died and waxed, ready for use. Going to hit the coyotes hard before Nov, hoping for better fur, and bobcats later towards Mid to late Nov. into Feb or March. Have a mt lion tag in my pocket just in case one moves back into the meadows. Coons are pretty nice up here but not worth anything so we try to stay away from trapping them. Been hearing our cat prices will be good this year, coyotes held pretty strong last year even with auction delays in Canada. |

Aw man, that's the worst. I had better luck putting my sets out in the open away from brush to keep the coons out. The closer you are to creeks, or any kind of water, coons are a problem.

We've caught a couple of big boars up here, they go to the tanner if we keep them.
Thankfully they are not as active when it gets really cold up here. |

Ordered some bobcat and coyote lure today, got a bottle of urine too.
Just need some bobcat urine and a few pigeons for bait and we're set. Hunting season is always busy so I order early and we're ready when it gets cold. |

Got a box of nice smelly stuff and a bottle of urine this week. One more order yet to come in.
Spouse's work schedule got changed this week so that throws a kink in our plan but we'll figure it out, vacation time for trapping I guess. |

I can remember when coon was king back in the 70s. Well …. maybe not king, that was reserved for cats and fox in the south, but coons made up the bulk of the harvest, at least in the southern US. Times do change though.

Sadly, coons bring next to nothing now. Even our nice fluffy ones.
Found a bobcat toilet on the creek crossing culvert last weekend and put up a cam to see what the cat looks like. We'll check it next weekend after our hunt. Bobcat urine and lure and bait from Lennon came in yesterday, we're set now. Good score Rivershack ! |

I sure saw a whole bunch of foxes and coons on my last game camera pull. Unfortunately our place is 4 hours away, so the odds of running traps consistently are pretty low. Especially if there's no fur market.

Coon prices look bad AGAIN this year. A few years ago a few 100 coons would polish up a season and pay for fuel and operational costs. Only things that are worth taking are coyotes and cats nowdays and time is hard to come by.
Bid on a large Ranch the other day that asked for one, then they complained about the bid and asked for a break down of pricing and reasoning behind it. I took the time to verbally break it down even though I provided a written contract and a link to a viewable sharepoint excel file that was to be updated daily with catch information and daily catch photos, Ranch also lies inside city limits and has lots of prying eyes 2 week catch period ....Initial set fee, daily round trip fuel charges, major and minor predator charges per catch. In the end they rejected the bid because they cannot understand the facts that minor predatory animals are directly affecting their turkey and quail populations. |

Those were the days. When I was in high school that’s the only way there was to make a little money. 25-$30 for a big coon, gas was .50ct/gallon money would go a long ways. $2 for a possum. I loved my trap lines. I trap now for predator control ie. fawn esters! |

What are some lures and baits that y'all have had the most success with?
I am planning on getting serious about trapping this year. I have some Bridger #2 dogless traps that I ordered last February along with some "Shenanigans Bobcat Curiosity Lure". Within a month I was able to prep my traps and strike some success. 42 Lb Texas Cat. gonna be hard for me to beat (The cat in my profile pic) |

Snared a fox Monday! Storm got them moving. We have snared 5 bobcats since January near Lipan and a few foxes. About to have some kidd goats hit the ground and another round of critters should start coming around.

Picked up 3 of the new MB Alpha traps. They look nice and like the large pan and dogless setup. Not 4 coiled yet, we'll give them a try at 2 coiled first.

Had about 24 sets out over Thanksgiving. It was windy for all of the time except about 8 hours, I'm talking 35-40 mph winds all day and night for 3 days.
Caught one nice female coyote and sadly lost a Bridger #3 to unknown animal. Found the stake about 35 yards away and bent in half, at least 1/2 inch bar. We're thinking maybe a big cat, mt lion. Hoping we can turn it up later along the creek, the cat that is. |

We found a bobcat toilet on the creek crossing culvert and set a trap to try and catch it juts to see ho furry they are already. Checked it in the morning after the wind died down, not cat but looked at the trail cam later, note the time frame, he came by mid day. The trap is set on the side of the crossing on the right of the pic, at the far end of the crossing.
Looks like a big male. |

We're really not targeting them quite yet but would have liked to catch one to check on prime.
Him showing up mid day was a surprise but we have seen them out and about before during the day, mid morning and late afternoon. I had a miss on a bobcat, nice print just off the pan. For an easy animal to catch they sure can humble you. Not sure what ours will bring this year so we may be keeping them. |

Never did much trapping but I’m going to give it a whirl this spring. The new lease property has a lot of coyotes and we need to cut em down before fawning season
Any tips for a beginner? My initial plan was to use snares sets along fence rows with a lure. There is livestock on the property so that’s why I figured stick to fence crossings. I thought to avoid the main trails and let the lure do its work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

canny make sure your fence crossings are not being used by deer
My other advice is to spend a lot of time at this place https://trapperman.com/ |
