Pig Pipes

If you have used one, post up success and/or any TC pics you may have. I went to Home Depot and picked up the supplies to build two of them. I started at 11:15 p.m. and finished within 30 minutes. It's five feet long and I stuck some old marbles in the upped end and put on an end cap. I drilled six holes instead of four holes and can't wait to get out and set it up.

I have used them, only issue I had with them was that there was no way to control the timing when they showed up. The T/C would catch pics of them at all hours. Pretty neat, cheap way to go tho. Good luck.

Fill with corn, anchor down, attach or insert something to assist with "noise making", locate it close enough to your camp, stand, road, etc. so you can hear the hogs rolling it around trying to get corn to fall out of the holes, sneak up to the area with the wind in your face and choose one of the following:

1. Ka-BOOM
2. Thwack
3. Click/Flash (photo)
4. "Honey, look at all the cute piggies"
5. Pull pin, milk the grenade, throw, duck

I put one behind my house a month or two ago. I put it by a tank that the pigs were hitting. They found the pipe at 11pm and the same hogs stayed till 7am until it was all gone. I put corn and a little hog wild in mine.

I have two at the ranch and they will empty them quick once they find them. If they somehow get them un attached from whatever you have them hooked to they will take them a ways off and then you have to go find them so make sure your attachment is good.

I have used something similar in S Texas with some success.....we used a 5 gallon Ozarka type dispense bottle, filled it about 1/3 of the way with corn, capped it, drilled holes in it just big enough for corn to come out, and tied it off to a T-Post in the ground and wrapped an old water hose around the rope so it didnt tear the rope up and it moved easily. As soon as the pig touches it, you can hear it go off, and they push it around getting the corn to come out and to tell you the truth it worked great

I use them too and they work great for Wt or axis deer or hogs. You can control the amount it disperses at a time by how many and where you strategically place the holes. We have used deer corn and deer nuggets and they both work great for ours.

I place mine in my alternate shooting lane away from my feeder and it has worked well to get the axis in to it because some of the axis are more reluctant to come to a feeder but they will come to the pipe feeder rolling around on the ground.

It also makes for great entertainment to watch them bump it.

Forgot to mention probably the most important part...Remember to attach a cable so you can attach it to a tree, an anchored feeder leg, or a ground anchor of some kind.

I made one and it worked well but I only filled it twice and never hunted it. And unfortunately my camera malfunctioned every time they came in. There was a perfect circle around the t-post where they were working it.

The first time they broke the cable so I had to get a stronger one. I think it's important to use a swivel so the cable doesn't get twisted and break. I also attached it to the t-post with a big ring so the cable wouldn't wrap around the post.

I have used post hole diggers and dug down 4' or more, fill with corn. Boom looks like a bomb went off. Deer will get on their knees to get some,too.

I used an old beat up 50 gallon drum. Threw a couple of welds on the joker so I could hook a chain to it then, put some random holes in it and chained it down to a tree. The only problem I had was keeping corn in it. They would empty it every week, but it made plenty of noise and made for easy killin'.

I have done that too but with hog wild. They will root the heck out of that hole. I used to use this technique to get the hogs coming in and then place a trap over it and bam! Worked like a champ

Same experience here. They worked great but once the hogs find them they'll stay till they're empty or until they catch an arrow thru the boilermaker!

Cow bell on the end of pipe will help you hear. Or coke cans.

Landscaping light on t post above pig pipe will light up the area.

I have made and used them several times with success. I use a coated cable dog leash with the screw in thing you by at home depot. they could spin that thing as much as they wanted and it wouldnt knot up. The one I liked the most I had an old cow bell attatched to the end so I new they were there.

For sure. How far into the brush/cactus can a hog roll/toss/carry a 30-gal barrel? Answer: Don't know as we never found it on our 600ac lease.

Looking at the picture I don't think this is one of those that's used with corn. I think it's more like a scent dispenser judging by he size of the holes. You hang it from a tree limb and fill it with hog wild or liquid attractant. Hogs will bang on it and the attractant drips out.
We put buck candy in ours and the hogs wear them out. We put them along the ranch roads and drive them at night.

Make sure that you put a swivel of some sort on it or they will twist it up till it binds and will break the stainless cable....been down that road before

I first saw these in the late 80's in south Texas. I was only about 7 years old but I remember having to pour the 5 gallon buckets of corn down them while my dad held up an end. He saw one and made 4 that were 10" diameter x 5' long heavy duty pvc. He made caps out of stainless and a piece of all thread went through the entire length from end to end. The all thread was welded to the end nearest the chain end and the other end was removeable. We would pull off one end and pour in the corn. I do remember we had one on a t post that ended up snapping at the ground where the swivel was and it took all day to find the barrel which was about 500 yards away in a big creek bottom. We had 4 holes in each one, but ended up putting bolts in 2 holes because they would empty it so quick. We used to move them every year becaus the trehcn would form where it was rolled. I have tried them other places where they were never touched at the same time though. I'll post some pics soon.

Ever time we used a T-post the chain would bind and break. Then you have to search for your pipe in the wilderness.

In two years haven't had a hog on it, that we've seen. But deer like the heck out of it. I've had as many as a dozen deer at one time.

WE have done the same thing with a 55 gal drum. they work great.

I've used them for years. They work great.

Instead of a t-post or chain, I use a piece of rigid conduit driven in the ground, and I put a big bridle ring on the swivel. It only spins around the pipe, and they can't break it. The round pipe is key to this working.

6 holes !!! They will empty your pipe Quick !!! I have three 5/8'' holes in each of my three pipes and they will clean it out in a three to five days. Once they start to hit it hard I duck tape both end holes and use the middle hole only. I also have a 3'' cap inserted backwards into the 4'' pipe and filled with a few rocks and covered with 4'' cleanout cap. If they eat my corn all gone when they roll it around the rocks rattle making them think there is still some corn there.

We use a t post driven into the ground and slide a 2ft piece of 1 1/2" pvc down over that for the support post .It allows the cable to rotate around without binding.Hunting in west tx the ground gets so hard about the only thing you can drive into it is a t post with a driver.Also,the best and least expensive hog attractant is to mix powdered raspberry or strawberry Jello in with your corn regardless of how you put it out.They will find it in a hurry and can"t resist it.(giving away the trade secrets here)

Hawaii Hogs really don't know or care about them. I've got 6-8 3/4 inch holes drilled in mine, they eat what's close to the pipe, but don't know it around. Have no clue why.
Mine is 4 inch ABS about 3 feet long put a screw on top on it.

I gave up using mine. I've seen them eat corn from the feeder all around the pipe and never touch the pipe.

I chain mine to a old tire then drop it around a t-post bought a motion sensor light at lowes for $30 hooked it to t-post pigs come up light comes on killing time

I had same kinda luck with the gravity bucket knock feeder too. 5 gal bucket drill a 2 inch hole center of the bottom. Put a 16 inch 1 1/4 " closet rod in the center, so it hung down about 12 inch below the bottom of the bucket.
Hung it so the bottom of the bucket was about 2 feet off the ground so when they walk under or by the bucket they would hit the rod allowing corn to drop out, but they stayed away from the rod and bucket, and walked around it.

So just to try and clear a few things up....its 4" pipe about 5ft long, cap one end and put a screw on cap on the other end (not sure of technical name) and drill about 4 - 5/8" holes?? Whats the best way to put the marbles in without plugging the hole??...or is that not an issue?? And of course add a chain to secure it.

I put a cup on the inside, glued flush with pipe, out your "rattle" inside and then gluded thed cap on.
