Anyone shocked when someone can't gut a deer?

My oldest brother last year could neither hit a deer shooting and then when I shot it for him to take home...he said he could no longer stomach gutting one! Also a friend of mine shot a buck last year then was just standing around after I hung up his deer then announced that he had never gutted one! lol!I was amazed!

I'm cool with folks that can't because they have never done it before. We all start somewhere. But to the folks that just can't handle the smell I tell them that hunting isn't the right hobby for them. I make my 13 year old brother gut anything he kills, because I think hunting involves the preparation for the table as much as it does the killing. If someone wants to pay me to gut their deer and quarter it, then fine. But if that person uses the "I can't handle the smell" excuse to try and con me into doing it, their deer will have to wait until they find someone willing to do it for them. You kill it, you clean it.

I never gut a deer. No need to IMO.

Cleaning it is part of the process. But I can see where someone wouldn't want to. It's similar to if you just got the deer but don't skin or quarter it and just take it to the processor

I've never gutted a deer either. Been hunting for 20+ years.

It's not difficult to clean a deer without gutting it.

I'll gut a deer if its going to sit over night, but if I'm quartering it right after the hunt then I wont ever touch the guts.

I have never gutted one but would want to learn. Smell does not bother me.

When someone new on my lease doesn't know how, I have my wife go show them because she will ridicule them the whole time.
