Thumbs up Lake Conroe Smackdown!

Decided to some social distancing lol. We got on the water around 8am this morning after waiting for the rain to let up. Almost went home but decided to fish because of the overcast. Glad we did lol. My wife, boy, and me ended up catching 42 nice ones all on rod and reel! Was a heck of day!

Shrimp. I couldn't get any shad this morning so I took shrimp just in case. Bought a 100 ct raw deveined small/med at walmart for $9.99. Thats what we used. I always take shrimp in case I cant get shad. Right now is hit or miss I guess because I couldn't find any this morning but we got there pretty late too.

Bottom up against the bulkhead with carolina rig. 1/2 oz sinker and then about 12" line with a 2/0 circle hook

About 1 1/2 hrs start to finish. I was filleting them and momma was cutting out the ribs and trimming. Wasn't to bad.

I've been telling one of my coworkers (who hasn't fished much) that we were going to go to Conroe this time of year to catch catfish. May need to tell him to burn a vacation day on Friday

Edit: Well, depending on if we're allowed to travel for something other than food or medical at that point...

hogslayer78, what was the water temperature? I'm curious how it compares to the reading SJRA gives on their website.

64 is what I noticed when I turned on my depth finder at stowaway on the north end of lake. With these 90 degree temps forecasted, it should be upper 60's by Friday.

If I was coming from Waco where would the best ramp to use? Guessing from your comment I should concentrate on north side of lake. Never been there was thinking pick my son up at collage station and fish some.

That's pretty close to what SJRA is showing. And yep, with as good as y'all did and the way the forecast is looking, it should be "on" for the next month.

I launch at stowaway but I fish mid lake so we run several miles south. The closet ramp would be the 830 ramp. Its a public free ramp and no charge to launch. You can catch them on any bulkheads but your bulkheads on main lake points are gonna be your money.
