This hunt has almost become an annual thing. The hunt starts one week from today but I am well into preparation with gathering all my gear and double checking the list.
We are hunting Rio Arriba county in unit 5a. Private land (6,000 acres) but DIY. The first year of this hunt I took a 180+ buck. Last year I took more of a management buck. I am hoping the big boys are on their feet especially later in the hunt as the rut inches closer. We also have a bull elk tag which our group will have to draw straws on who gets the tag. There have been some great bulls in recent years. This add an extra level of excitement.
Over the next two weeks I’ll do my best to keep this thread updated with our progress. Praying for success on some good animals.
As of now the weather looks great, lows in the 20’s and highs in the 40’s. No snow in the outlook yet but that could change quickly. Honestly I can do without the snow because once it melts the ranch roads get a little sloppy.
Won’t be long now!
