    Cutting aluminum diamond plate.

I have an old tailgate cover that I want to use for a project. I need to cut a star out of it. 8 to 10"s.
Would a circular saw with a carbide tip wood cutting blade be the thing to use?
A jig saw might work but cutting straight lines with it sux.

Any ideas, advice or first hand experience will be appreciated.

Yes and a fine tooth blade like for paneling etc is even better

I'd use a jig saw. And "guide bar" to keep the lines straight. Then a heavy course lathe bas*ard to de-burr and smooth it out. There are also lots of options for an edge cover if you want to go that route.

Why not use a 4” angle grinder

Another vote for jig saw. Lube blade!

This will work just as well but like I posted early use a fine tooth blade and it will cut as easy as wood

They'll have the same blade for a circular saw.

If you do this make sure you have an aluminum rated grinding disc.

Or get a stack of cheap ones from HF. I went through 2 cut off wheels cutting 7 linear feet of aluminum diamond plate.

Jigsaw with a fine tooth blade works fine.
