My neighbor who, uses one (Troy-Built) on his rocky place, came over and asked me to make him a shield so it wont throw rock/etc twds the house/windows. He really likes the walk-behind. He used to weed-eat it. Ugh.
Here is what I came up with (removeable).
I haven't gotten feed-back from him yet, been raining.

DR trimmer for rocky ground
For two years I have been considering one for my swamp. It’s too wet to mow but it’s also part of the yard. I didn’t consider the lease opportunities. I may be sold but I like the cub cadet price better.

Update on the DR trimmer: It works great! Handles the rocky terrain very well and cut my time down considerably over the areas I was having to use a weedeater. It will sling a rock but not too bad. Just have to be careful around buildings. Only issue was it does not run out of gas as often as I would have liked so I could take a break.

It. Sucks.
I tried it at my place on limestone this weekend and I ran run through stuff faster with a echo weedeater. The DR just won't spin fast enough to cut the grass. It took 4 and 5 passes in thick stuff

I had a Husqvarna string mower for 10 years. Tore and beat the crap out of it. Replaced every part. It was a beast. The chasis fibally broke. Got a new Cub Cadet. It works great too.
That's what they are called. String mower. DR makes one. Their field and brush mowers are on a different level though. Much more expensive.
