Default Undersized buck dumped

This is the second buck we have found by our place. Someone must have thought about tagging it and then decided not to. It was only 12 1/2Ē wide

Can still call operation game theift, they may open a case on it. Chances are, if they have done it once, they will do it again until caught. Criminals are creatures of habit

There is most definetly a tag on the right antler with a white zip tie.

Stephens county and no there was no tag. If there would have been a tag the GW would be paying that person a visit.

Could have been someone that got scared of being in trouble when ground shrinkage kicked in and ran rather than own up to it and hope for some leniency possibly...

I donít hunt in a AR county but I would imagine that this probably happens quite a bit.

If this is in an AR County then the Game Warden should be called. If it was illegally dumped then the Game Warden should be called. It looks to be legally tagged. If it's not an AR County then there may be no crime here

The hunter took the meat he's required to

Edit: I see OP where you're positive it was not tagged. He probably got the meat in the cooler and pulled the tag off the deer when he dumped it.

Thanks AC thanks what we are thinking too. It was in the ditch area across from our property. My brother was 2 feet away from this deer when he looked at it and there is without a doubt 100 Percent NOT a tag on the deer.

I once called GW about a deer dumped in ditch at our house, he asked me what he was supposed to do about it.......don't know, just figured out of season you might want to know.....which pretty much meant if I didn't see who did it then pretty much nothing he could do

Guess things go differently when the cameras are running, then it's CSI.....

Called a GW once about a doe dumped doe down the road from my house. It had been gut shot. They took the hindquarters and dumped it. GW was less than interested and almost seemed ****** to be there.....Never again.

Thatís what I was wondering. Surely if someone measured it that close then they wouldíve seen what appears to be a piece of paper ziptied

Just FYI

When you call OGT it starts a process where things must be done

If your local GW don't want to or simply won't do anything, start calling OGT

At least that is what I was told by one of the State Park Police

Looks to me like it is quarter out . So who ever killed the deer quarters the deer out and takes his tag with the meat doesnít have to keep the horns . Until he gets caught with the meat and they want proof of sex

There was a post on here a week or so ago about deer that get left in the woods because they are undersized. My brother found this buck today and I thought it related to that subject so I thought I would share. My brother is in no way a poacher. He is a highly skilled mechanic so he is capable of telling if there is a tag on a deer or not. This deer was not shot, tagged, or dumped by anyone on my lease. It’s funny how people who are looking at a reduced sized picture can tell more about a deer tag that a guy standing drlirectly over it. I appreaciate my brother being tied to tagging and then cutting up the deer up and dumping it. It’s not really funny.

If it's a buck tag you don't have to show proof of sex.The tag goes with the meat.Looks to me like he dumped the carcass, and didn't give a rip about that little basket rack.

I cropped and enhanced the pic multiple ways and do not believe that is a tag.

But "hunters" will dump/cover up illegal deer.

It's the threads like this that make me have a disdain for most people. The man said it didn't have a tag on it, you zoom in on the pic you can see there is no tag. The blatant calling someone liar seems like common practice here anymore. So much skepticism from many on here. Let's leave the police work to Chew.

Lots of conclusions jumped to in this thread. Everything about that deer could have been legal with the exception of finding a better place to dump it. Nothing was wasted and it obviously had a tag on it at some point. Could very well have been killed where ARs don't exist.

Okay... so I downloaded the pic and zoomed... and that doesn't look like a tag to me. I could see how at first glance you might think it is a tag... but if you zoom in, you should see some clues that would give you tons of doubt.

For starters, the "tag's" position relative to the cutout hole and the zip tie aren't aligned. Some personal bias, but I typically wrap the tag and then zip tie through and around. You don't often see a flagging tag, and if you do, then the position of the tag seems too far down (depth) in the picture given the size of a tag and where it should be relative to the zip tie.

If the tag were attached to the zip tie... it would be more in the forefront of the picture... or not as much visible as is shown.

It is something else.

And there are probably tons of doe in the trash that have a zip tie through their ears and no tags. I think most people retain their tag after they "dump" the deer after final destination... so that in of itself isn't a big deal.

I'm not saying I don't believe you but if it's not a tag (and maybe a leaf or something) it looks a lot like one (even looks like it has 2 date notches cut in it). I do see what you mean about the tag-like-object being offset from the zip tie though. For the record, all my tags (as well as the guys I hunt with) have their tags flagging...just out of habit, no particular reason.

To your point, your 2 notches you "see" are day of month notches (top and bottom row)... the month notches are at the ends. Why would two day notches and no month notch be cut?

I want to be like Chew when I grow old.... er.

Looks like ear to me and definitely not a tag. It looks farther away as well than the zip tie
