Default Lake Calcasieu area guide

The local guide weve used for years has seemed to have checked out and is no longer providing the things we expect from a chartered fishing trip. I have no issues with the larger corporate type outfitters but Im looking more for a mom/pop or family run style of guide service. Any recommendations?

Bruce Baugh is a great choice. Erik Rue should still be around there as well.

Hackberry Rod & Gun for sure. Still family owned and operated with all the amenities. Some of the best fishing and fishermen in the world IMO.

Ive been getting emails from Big Lake Guide Service that is now Gypsy Guide Service our of Mississippi.

If they are still running trips, we went with them a couple years ago. Had a great time and caught tons of fish.

I was going to add him. Couldn't remember last name. I've never fished with him. But have spoken with him several times on the water and at the dock. Seems like a good dude.

Didn't Josh buy out Mark Huse's lodges? Use to be Hackberry Charters?

Who would this be? You can just send me a message if you don't want to post it. Might save me some problems in the future.

Sportsman Charters Capt John Saucier. Fished many times with him and never been disappointed. Also has duck/geese hunts and does cast and blast.

Not sure. He has a lodge on the main drag and built a nice house right on the water

Anthony Busceme is my first choice for entertainment value. Scott Hanchey is not as entertaining but has always worked hard to put my groups on fish.

I was a big fan of the Poe’s before they moved. If/when I book another trip there I will probably try Bruce Baugh. I’ve fished with Hackberry Rod and Gun before and don’t have any real complaints, but quality of guides varies greatly. I’ve fished with two guides there that are awesome, but two others that sucked. Food and lodging is not worth the extra money IMO.

I have also heard good things about Eric Rue.

Has anyone fished with these guys? Our previous scheduled trip in April got cancelled due to the virus and we're trying to rebook. Kevin Broussard and Cajun Phil

Yep, I have. I can't remember the guide's name that took us out. We did catch a bunch of reds.

Chew, Cajun Phil had a TV show back in the day. I grew up in Hackberry, they good people. Cajun Guide service, Capt Kevin Beard or Capt.Brad Boudreaux they all child hood friends. HR&G, the Stansel boys are solid people also. I hear that the red fish are thick back at home in big lake now.

Thanks. Yeah I found some of the old YouTube videos and some of their tournament fishing. Hopefully we get a good guide. Looks like we are going June 11th.
