Default Old Gray Wolf is out

For you Ticket listeners.... Mike Rhyner has retired.
He started the station and has been there for 25+ years. He will be missed by me. I sure enjoyed listening to him 3:00-7:00

Good dude and a legend in DFW radio. Encyclopedic knowledge of baseball - my favorite sport. I originally got to know him long ago - before The Ticket - when my wife worked with him at WBAP. The Hardline has been a part of my afternoon commute for over 20 years - gonna be weird without him.

He is a good man. A buddy of mine's dad passed away years ago and the dad was a big listener, went to a lot of events. Mike gave the family a sizable amount to pay for the funeral. Stay hard, Mike.

He shoulda' taken the stairs.

Gonna be a hole in the show for awhile. My lasting memory will be of him asking Barry Switzer in a training camp: "What do you do around here?". And / or of Michael Irvin: "Do you feel like your let the team down?"

He had a set for a long long time.

Bon Chance Mike Rhyner!

I was a P1 day 1. Don't listen as much since moving away but still do when in Dallas and stream it occasionally. That just won't be right not hearing his voice.

happy for the old gray wolf. Sounds like he is completely at piece with it, and he can enjoy a new phase of life.

Also, thinking they move Jake into his spot. That will be a good mixup, as he will challenge Corby and Danny, and bring some real sports talk back to that show, which has been missing outside of Mike's insight during baseball season.

Gen X Dave Lane is too much even for The Ticket. It would be greatness. But Davey will always be relegated to the occasional Saturday morning and fill in shows. What would be true greatness would be if the station would get rid of Corby and put Gordon and Davey, The Rant, on afternoon drive.

Not in one million years (Corbyism) will that happen.

A good one for sure. P1 from the beginning of The Ticket and missed it like crazy for 13 years when we lived in Austin from ‘99 to ‘12. Started listening again when we moved back to the metro mess. He and Greggo were still the best.

It won’t be the same. Stay hard Mike!

He will be missed. I listened to the ticket back in the early days then off and on thought the years. I have listed all day everyday over the last year. I only catch the first hour or two of the hard line but I catch his opening spill daily. Always turn up the volume for it.

The ripple effect will be interesting to watch play out. Jake is the obvious choice, but I hope it's not him, not with Corby.

Jake is the most entertaining guy on the station IMO and should be the headliner.

Could this be the Ben & Skin Landing place?
They had captured a LARGE portion of the afternoon ratings by the time they left the Fan.
It’s an incredible coincidence if not. It would require a hefty shake up but I’m not sure this could be it.

It wonít be them in whole, but I thought about them. The Ticket wonít cut Corby, and they have to make a place for Jake.

Ben, Corby, and Jake could work.

I wish Norm would retire...

Haven't listened to them in awhile because of the liberal yuck monkey Corby but I always enjoyed Rhyner. Sad to see him go but what a great retirement video.. Prior to the last 3 or so years I was a P1 but have recently switched to the fan in the afternoon. This cements that choice. Stay hard Rhynes!

Agreed, Corby can go jump in a lake. Probably White Rock.

Danny is good so long as he's not trying too hard. When he is his humor just comes off flat. He can tell a decent story now and then, too.

Watched Jake beat up my buddy "Mike in Duncanville" at Ticket Fight Night a while back. Hated to see that but it was fair and he's obviously a hard worker. His Dad, "Chappy", has driven his stock up, IMO.

Mike will be missed, curious to see where they go from here. I'd kill to have the Rant back but won't hold my breath.

Started listening to the ticket in 95/96. First call in was prior to the draft of Joe Smith and Corliss Williamson. I am now 37 years old. Makes me feel really old to think about how young I was then.

Parents wouldn't let me listen to regular radio. Just oldies and sports. I became obsessed with sports, and they were the only thing here that would keep my attention.

I became a creature of habit, and am by nature, crazy loyal. I have never listened to anything else but the Ticket, and them not changing anything has kept me locked in.

Rhyner has a singular voice as the Godfather. I became attached to him specifically due to his role in creating what I grew into. He has been cutting back for a while now. You could sense that.

Radio / life definitely wont be the same (not in a good or bad way). I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it definitely wont be the same.

Rhyners retirement is haze gray and underway!

Corby is a ******. Other than the over cusser, I've never had much use for him. Rhyner will be missed. I was at the ticket watch party in Denton when the Rangers clinch the American league and went the world series the first time. He just sat cross legged on the stage with tears in his eyes for a few minutes. He then stood up and announced that the Rangers are going to the FN woirld series. It was a pretty cool moment.

Not sure what they will do as far as a new show. I like most of what Jake brings. I also think Julie has been a good addition.

I found the little ticket in its first week of existence. I was having to travel that semester and hour and half to finish my degree. I was digging thru the dial and happened on 1310. I could only get it part of the time due the weak signal. I think the hardline was on mid day back then.

The musers are still my favorite, and I listen to them every morning. I hope they don't get in any hurry to hang it up.

Maybe once Norm moves on, move Corby in with Donny Doo and Ben and Skin to afternoon drive time.

All that said, we are pretty spoiled here in Dallas with our little Ticket. No other radio/podcast come close for me.

I like the GBag Nation.....especially Bacsik during baseball season...much like Rhyner at the ticket. Of course at 2-3 years in they are still kinda new to me and haven't driven me away yet.

Ben and Skin have already mentioned they aren't moving over to the Ticket. I believe it is 97.1. I listen to Ben and Skin because of their origins with the Ticket.

Pretty sure Jake is just making a move to drive time.

Bacsik is great baseball talk. Bob and Dan are also really good when they get to dive in. Bass and Ty do a great job in my opinion. Very good follows when it comes to the little Rangers.
