    SW 629-3 barrel length

Im pretty sure this is a 6 inch barrel. My bil say 5 inch. I always thought you measure from the forcing cone to end of barrel. Anyone know for sure?

You are correct. You measure to the end of the barrel. According to your picture the barrel is slightly less than six inches. But S&W measures like most guys so yours would be considered a 6 inch barrel. They do make 6 1/2 inch barrels as well. The only other barrel that is different is the 8 3/8 inch barrel. But with S&W you never know.

You measure from the cylinder to the end of the barrel.

same as on threaded bolt guns...you measure as if the entire bbl was removed, not from the front of the action. Tell bil he owes you lunch.

Used to have a 6” 686 that actually measured 5 7/8” which appears very similar to what you have.
