    Beginning bow hunter- equipment help!

    Hey GS,

I got my first bow this Christmas as some may have seen by my post. It came with a quiver and a pin sight.

I know I need an arrow rest and a release.

Which would you recommend for a beginner? My father-in-law recommended a drop away rest.

I don't know much about the equipment, but I'm willing to learn!

    What else will I need?

    Thanks everyone!

Depending on your budget, get the best you can afford.
some sort of a capture rest
Treat your sight as you would a rifle scope.

I would go to someplace like Cabelas and try out a bunch of releases. It's more of a personal opinion.

Rest wise, at a smaller budget I would go for a QAD or Whisker Biscuit. Higher end, a QAD HDX or a Ripdcord. Of you could try a Trophy Ridge Revolution micro-adjust, kind of middle budget with a unique twist on the drop forward design.

NAP Apache is a budget-minded drop away, and a great capture rest.

Hit a pro shop, QAD's are great.

I shoot a QAD HDX, but highly recommend starting out with a whisker biscuit. As you advance in the sport you can look at upgrading. Keep it simple and fun. Especially fun. Before you know it it will be the same addiction all of us have.
