    Tradbow Trouble Shooting Checklist

There are lots of little things that can make a stickbow flung arrow go awry, and I am not a great shot, so I'm constantly playing whack a mole with my shooting. As such, I thought it would be nice to get a running list going of recurring shot issues and their fixes.

When my arrows fly left (right handed) I check the following:
    1. arrow alignment/bow cant. I have a tendency to let the arrow get out from under my eye, and the arrows then go left.

    2. relaxed grip. This one bit me recently, I was grabbing the bow at the shot, and it was torqueing the riser left before the arrow could clear.

    3. Follow through(string hand). If I pluck the string my arrows can fly left. Instead I have to pull through the string, imagining it cutting through my fingers, rather than trying to release.

    High/low misses:
    1. aiming point (did my mind wander?)

    2. anchor point changes (Did I change my arrow, bullseye, eye triangle dimensions?)

    3. bow shoulder drifting (if my bow shoulder isn't held down and back towards my spine, it can drift up, changing the effective draw length)

    4. grip again (if I heel the bow too much it will push my shots high, and vice versa)

    Shotgun Patterning(Arrows errywhere!!!):
    1. Target panic/Yips. (Am I flinching at the shot, or maintaining my alignment until the arrow is in the target?)

    2. Grip again (Bow Torque doesn't have to drive your arrows in a fixed direction, it can make you hit all over the target)

What is your personal trouble shooting checklist?

We tune our arrows to fly best when our draw, anchor and release is perfect, which they rarely are. (for me anyway) Two of my common form flaws:
    1) When my arrows are flying with a stiff indication it is almost always because I am moving my
head forward (turkey necking). This shortens draw length and makes the arrow too stiff. If I
think about keeping my head in line with my spine the problem goes away.

    2) You would think the simplest thing to remember is not to drop your bow arm, but I catch myself
    doing that regularly as well.

      My most common issues:
      - Not getting my eye over the arrow: hit left
      - Too much tension/trying way too hard: hit high and/or left
      - Moving my head backwards (away from the target/making a double chin) when coiling my shoulders: hit high

As you can probably tell, the vast majority of my misses are high and/or left...

I tend to wear out the left side of my backstop. It's been a struggle for years!

Here is a better, more accurate and simpified list:
Arrow left: I suck as an archer

ARrow right: I suck as an archer

Shotgun patter: I REALLY suck as an archer

This right here sums up what my problems are.

There are many reasons people call it "the suck" and " struggle stick".
Learning and understanding your personal form and tendencies are a big part of it.

One favorites is having a shotgun pattern, and then realizing that I was using the "Space Anchor" by not even touching my face.
