    Cotton Seed

What time of year is t recommended to start and stop feeding it? Going to feed it along with 20% pellets this year. I know that deer will only eat so much of the pellets without having water close by; due to the protein getting hot in their stomach. Is this the case for Cotton Seen as well? I've heard that you can't feed it year round. Is this true, or will it make bucks sterile during certain times of the year?

In for thoughts. I was under the impression that once you started you wanted to feed year round because some enzyme the deer build up to digest it. Maybe that was just guy at the feed stores opinion.

January to the end of August. Deer need water nearby for cottonseed as well as protein pellets.

Cottonseed is a source of protein, fat, and fiber, all by itself.

What price have you been quoted out your way?

I will be calling the gin down south next week for prices...

same and a much shorter ginning season this year due to all the flooding so it will be gone quick.

Y’all might check at the Saint Lawrence Coop. Might be cheaper. It’s a much bigger gin.
Edit: it’s the Glasscock County Coop, south of Garden City.

I’ve never fed cottonseed, but I’m thinking of starting. I just called Winter Garden Co-op in Batesville and they’re selling it for $200 per ton right now. Does anyone’s know where I can buy the big sacks to haul the cottonseed? Also, I’ll need to build some feeders. Does anybody have any photos of your feeders?

$250/ton is what I’ve been paying there.
