How are you going to handle supplemental feed and work around camp? Some guys are super busy with kids activities and work in the off season but can manage to make it out every week during hunting season. These seem to be the same people that can't spring for protein feed. But in all seriousness I would lay out an expectation on work and feed from the start.

Plus the group needs to keep track every time the feeder is being filled. This way they can calculate how much the cost will be for the following year if they did want to split the bill evenly. Some feeders will be hit harder than others depending on concentration of animals in that spot. Is it located near water? And the feeder preference of the animal.
Hence why I created a website to do all this stuff.Last edited by Beargrasstx; 09-17-2020, 05:24 PM.

Personally I would want to choose what brand I am feeding the deer. I like the whole aspect of management though. I know some guys just like to show up and shoot. I enjoy the year round process and I think I wouldn't be alone in that.
Everyone on the lease would need to agree on what type protein you use . The best way to do it is make sure you collect enough to cover the fluctuations of prices if you end up with extra it can roll over until next season. Of course that is only feeding protein from January until September. . And have designated protein spots throughout the ranch . And not at every hunting location.

I’m considering taking on another lease starting next year.
It would be Archery only.
Hunters would be required to feed protein.
This would be a lease that should grow 140”+ bucks.
I figured 1 trophy, 2 doe, and at least one management.
Question is what would you consider management?
This is a place near Eldorado. Lots of deer in the area.

However shooting two mature trophy bucks per member is not realistic for long term success. So in most lease set ups there is an allowance for the 2nd buck to be a “cull” of some sort.
