Last Saturday myself and a couple of friends had a kayak bass fishing tournament at Lake Athens. If you don’t know, kayak fishing tourneys all go by length and not weight. The tournament ended at 3 pm, but I had to get back to the marina to upload my catches via the WiFi from our TD. I couldn’t get the app we were using to upload my catches all day. I was headed in early and had one spot next to the boat ramp that I wanted to fish before calling it quits. When I came around the point on the main lake I noticed 5 or 6 kayaks on the spot I had in mind. Once I got closer there were only two guys on the spot and they just happen to be the guys that rode with me. I talked to Dan (ultralite09) and he asked if I needed an upgrade because the fish were here and feeding. I made a couple of casts and on that second cast I pull in my new personal best!
11.15lbs.
25.75”
I ended up taking home 6th place and big bass for the tournament. It was a heck of a way to end the day! I can’t thank Dan and Ben enough for the help, and for Dan telling me if I needed to upgrade to throw in there. I would have never thought that this fish was going to be the one on the end of my line. It was incredible! It put up a heck of a fight on my spinning rod with 8 lbs test.
