Nutria rats in my pond, now what?

Just spotted 6 large beaver looking creatures in my pond. I’ve been watching them, but no clear shots of their tails. Any chance it could be beaver? In Brazoria
We’ve been here 11 years and I’ve never seen anything like em.

Could be either. I would remove them especially in a pond.

Shootem all! Walk your pond and edge and you will see where they have been. May be small holes just below the water surface on the dam. Look for structure buildup as well around the pond.

So either animal needs to be gone?

Yes. They tend to burrow along the dams compromising the integrity of the dams.

So what issues do the rats present? Beaver are obvious with their construction issues.

Night hunting is the way unless you are a good trapper.

We used to go out to the ponds on full moons for beavers and rats. They would destroy the place. With the full moon you see them moving along the water. Get ready with the 22 and hit the light. PEW! Me and dad had a blast.

Sounds like a target rich environment. Have fun
