I believe that since the US embargo they haven’t been able to import any cars from the US. All they have is what they have had since the 50’s. A lot of them are used as taxis. The nicer they are the more business they get. They have to be really creative with engines as well. Some have diesel boat motors, etc in them. They used to have a tv show about it. They have a pretty cool old car culture too.

We hired this car and driver for a couple days when we where there. The car belonged to the drivers grandpa and he bought it new. The driver was also a engineer and drove to make ends meet. This car had a Toyota Diesel and ice cold A/C.

Saw a pic years ago of a taxi being pulled by 2 mules. Russia supplied a lot of parts to Cuba while we embargoed them.
