Number 1 is bare should be ground not on terminal screw.
Number 2 should have about at least 1/4" cut off before landing under screw.
Number 3 WHERE THE HECK IS IT GOING? to the ground rod.

      Holy moly.

Thank you for calling a professional. You are lucky not to be on the news this morning.

I'm not an electrician, but know enough to be dangerous that is small wire to be on a 60 amp breaker, also looks like it has been warm a time or 2 Looks like an accident waiting to happen

Good thing you used a gfi outlet and not standard outlet. You go to plug in phone charger, tv,etc then you're frying electronic stuff before you can say OH SH!!

I dont know Sh$! about electricity, but I know what you had rigged up could have been bad news. Good thing nobody got hurt and you are bringing in someone that can do it correctly.

it looks like a bare wire going to one side of the 60A breaker. Judging from the color of the outside insulation, I would bet it was the black wire at one time and all the insulation burned off of it. For sure that wire was not big enough to carry anything that is run off a 60 amp breaker. I would be curious what that was used for before

To make matters worse this is a FPE box with Stab-Lok breakers!

Not only do I need new breakers I need an entire new box

                        What's your favorite brand?
                        GE?
                        Square-D?

Looks dirty, I’d pressure wash it. Other than that, you gave it a good try.

The breaker should be the lowest rated component on the circuit-- it's whole purpose is to protect everything else from overcurrent.

GE & Square D both work fine.
