Default Teal Season 2021! 16 Day Run

Early teal season is my favorite season. Can't get enough of it so run every day of the season. This morning was the 1st!

Hunted Garwood. Great shoot, but not fast. Took us till 9:10. Shooting died down pretty quick after shooting time. I imagine lots of groups struggled. Lots, I mean lots of hunters out. Except for 2 pair ,all our birds were singles & we only let 3 birds get through. Mornin was fabulous, cool & refreshing

Curious to see if the “potential “ gulf rain event will derail your admirable streak. Staying tuned - good hunting.

Had a good morning in Brookshire. 9 man limit by 8:30. What was also good is the hunt was all firemen on 9/11

If I can get there, I will hunt. Only thing that keeps me in the truck is Lightning. Have hunted through more than 1 tropical system.

Day 2 Garwood
Birds won big time today. We had 1 bunch of 5 come in early. We got 3. Never had another chance. Saw more birds today at a different place, but all hi & going elsewhere. We are at a disadvantage on this place this season. Rice rotation is such we don't have any big flats. Just some small openings the farmer left in. Lots of shooting around & some good hunts from reports. Birds gotta win sometimes. LOL! Main thing is we had a Great time in some really nice weather for Sept.

Had planned on taking my son to hunt public but got an invite to hunt some private ponds. Was pretty slow and we only got a couple but that’s how it goes. Got to sleep in a little and didn’t have to fool with the boat ramp chaos. A solo hunter probably would have had a limit but we missed a few opportunities trying to let the birds give us all a shot. Was planning on hunting most of the week but this storm may mess that up.

Day 3 Garwood
Birds still winning! Slowest start I have ever had in Gwood. Birds just not around my properties. Thought we would have more rain early. Weatherman was wrong again. What's new! LOL! Had 4 do a fly by & I got 2. Had 2 others skirt the pond & one small bunch high & headed elsewhere. Hunted till 10 hoping rain would move something. Hopefully tomorrow brings a few. Still don't know of anything I would rather be doing than chasing teal!

Day 4 Hurricane Hunt Garwood
Got an invite to hunt with a Friend. Lots of birds moving around and very sporty shooting with reported 48 mph gusting winds. We got our limits fairly quick. Shoot once close and then it looked like shrapnel going off when they flared. Heavy mist all morning kept them moving around. Will post a pic whenever I get power back at the house.
A great time outdoors. It was eerie seeing the transformers explode heading down I-10 this morning. See a big green glow and knew another power loss was happening. Got everything dried out and ready for tomorrow!

Good eye! It is a sweet 16. All i use for ducks now, xcept late in season, may take out the 12 if birds are spooky. If hunting small waters or teal working good I shoot a 28 ga.

I'm a big fan of both the 16 & 28, with those two a man can do most anything including Turkey out to 45 / 50 with good TSS & correct choke

Day 5 Garwood
My leases in Garwood are just dead right now. It was a Great morning though. Cool ,nice north breeze! I can enjoy that any day. Was hoping it had picked up ,but still no birds around me. I can hear shooting north & south ,but quiet in my area. Never seen this place this dead. Not even seeing birds in the air to amount to anything. Me & the pup enjoyed it though. We had a good time! LOL!
Had 1 bird come in about 8:30 & my only chance. Saw one other bird about 80 yards high & a couple of high bunches going somewhere. Still can't think of anything else I would rather be doing!
Happiness is a bloody dog And Hope for tomorrow!

Day 6 Nada
Got an invite back over where we hunted in the hurricane. Good amount of birds early, then slowed down with clear almost calm winds. Hunting a freshly flooded rice field.
Seen a good amount of birds in the air, go about 2 miles north and maybe see a flock or two on my place. amazing how they can be so concentrated & down the road a little slow, slow. Good times & some Great dog work today! Can't beat it with a stick!
