    SW Austin Elk

New tollroad was built in SW Austin that I take everyday to work from Hays County. Come to find out there is a herd of elk living in the areas where the road was built. So far I have seen 2 cows dead on the road, such a bummer. The COA put up a high fence along the new road so now they are stuck in the area I am showing on the map.
There may be a few more trying to get back to the North side of the road but they cant get through anymore. Be careful if you travel this road. Seen 2 different ones dead since Friday.

Elk have been there for years. I think they got out from a wildlife center and they just left alone. The Lady Bird Wildflower center is near there. Hate to see them killed on the roads as it is a waste of good meat.

I know, that is cool he is hanging out with them.
There was a large game ranch South of this area that was turned into a subdivision. Everyone thinks that is where these came from once the fences were knocked down.

They have been there for years. You can go walk the Lady Bird Wildflower and see/hear them if you get lucky.

Took this road in September and swore I saw an elk crossing sign. Makes sense now.

Man, hope they find a way to safety.

Are Elk considered exotic in Texas?

That's awesome. Like has been said previously I hope they can move safely from the urban sprawl.

My house is on Slaughter Creek that runs through Shady Hollow West.
Been here over 30 years, never seen them.

                          Probably for the best.
I've heard big deer make people do stupid things.
