    Hogs and cotton seed

I have a question.i have heard that if a hog eats cotton seed it will kill them,so they avoid it...if this is the case than all you guys with hog PROBLEMS sould soak some cotton seed with diesel and then the hogs will eat it and that should kill them.....just a thought,

          Question:

Will it actually kill them if they eat it? We were told they wouldn't eat it, so we put out a few feeders last weekend. (Not inside a pen)
Went to check feeder and 1 was completely empty (150 lbs).

Diesel is not an attractant. Its an attempt to keep deer from eating the corn. After awhile deer start eating diesel corn also.

The reason I ask is because i heard that they can not digest it and would stay away. So put it in places we don't have pens.

Lets try and stay on topic.

I understand they like to chew on the seed, get the oils, and spit it out. Not first hand experience.

This paper by OSU shows a protein, gossypol, in cotton seed to be toxic to pigs.

So there is some research to back the idea

They definitely didn't spit it out, there was maybe 5-10 lbs left out of 150.
Will be putting inside pen for sure.
