Kings of Texas was great as well as The King Ranch by Lea. Taming the Nueces Strip was very good.

Vaquero of the Brush Country by J. Frank Dobie. I just got it from Amazon and started reading it.

I believe the title is "If you love me, you will do my will". It is about the La Parra Ranch and Ms East and how a Catholic monk became the head of her fortune upon her passing.

The copy I have has handwritten notes from my grandfather, who was a veterinarian on the ranch when all of this happened.

Not South Texas exclusively, but "Empire of the Summer Moon" is one of my favorite books concerning Texas history

Taming the Nueces Strip is a great one. It is the story of Mcnelly's Rangers.

Not South Texas, but Texas nonetheless. Billie Sol Estes A Texas Legend is a good read.

“I would rather sleep in Texas”

I haven’t read it yet, but will be soon.
