    Utah Muley Hunt

My buddy and I flew in to Salt Lake on the 31st. Drove an hour east up to Coalville. Hunting with R and K Outfitters. Hunt is Sept 1-5. This was the hardest hunt of my life. Super steep, but the hard part is the elevation for a flat lander like me. Not much oxygen at 9500-10000 feet. Just have to keep plugging. Got on a couple shooters the previous two days but they were 900-1200 yds away. Saw lots of elk and some absolutely stunning country. Day 3 we decided to try to close the distance and go further up the mountain. It paid off with a great buck. Shot him at 430 yds. Of course he was even further up the mountain and it took us an hour just to get to him after the shot. Took some pics and packed him out two miles down the mountain. Shot him at 6:55pm and didn’t get to the lodge until 1am. As we were packing him down, I was thinking no way I can do this hunt again but woke up the next day and was ready to sign up again. RandK are a good group and really work hard for the hunter. My guide was awesome and part mountain goat I think.

Thanks. It’s a Sendero 300 RUM I bought from a TBHer several years ago. I sent it to Chad Chapman with Red Desert Rifles in Wyoming. He put the stock, new Leupold VX-5HD 7-35x56, Hatch Southwest Bipod and cerrakoted it. He worked up the load data for me and Water Dog here helped with loading my ammo. It’s a heavy gun for the mountains but it hammers it out there. I was feeling pretty comfortable shooting out to 600-700 yds.
