    Marlin 336 question

I bought a new to me {never been fired} 1989 Marlin 336 30-30. It has no sling attachments. There is a spot on the stock with an inlay where it looks like a stud should go. Question is, does this inlay pop out and you install a stud. I don't want to damage anything or do I need to take to a gunsmith and have sling attachments installed?

First I've heard of this. My marlin has it. No plans for a sling so never looked into it

The bullseye lets you know it’s a genuine walnut stock.

I didn't want to drill the stock of my Marlin 1894 so I went with a harnessed rifle sling.

Mounting a sling swivel here WILL kill the value of the rifle to any lever gun enthusiast. Drill and mount the swivel stud 2”-2 1/2” from butt , but not in the bullseye.
