I believe that is a special accommodation. For example ADHD, dyslexia, etc. Should have some special accommodation on things like the STARR test

It’s a variant of special education/special needs. Could be anything. Dyslexia, Mental disabilities, autism, etc that require extra consideration for their education.

                Correct

My son is dyslexic. He was allotted more time on tests.

thanks for posting.......my son qualifies as he has adhd. wish he was a little older as this would be right up his alley, he loves the parks and camping and would really like working there. I'm going to keep this in mind for when he's older. My wife has some students that might qualify as well and she is going to pass this on.

In Texas, there are 2 types of Special Ed students. The all have 504's and IEP's. The first and most common are kids with learning disabilities. Second and not in every school within a district are kids with behavioral problems that affect their learning. I know where I taught and worked with the behavioral kids in Lubbock, not every school from elementary to HS had this type of program, only a few. Some of these kids had to have4 24/7 coverage while in a regular classroom, some did not. Every teacher, TA, Admin that had one of my kids had 2 way radios in case an episode occurred with one of my students.

To tell you what it was like working with the kids, I started in 2012 working with them and my last year was the only year that I did not get bloodied. Don't get me wrong, I loved everyone of the kids I worked with, they were all great kids, it is just they had problems and when it happened it could get ugly.

I had one student with an IQ of 142 and the last 3 years I taught, one of my students won the school wide spelling bee, so these kids have the means to be bright in a classroom, it is just that something within them sets them off at times. ADD, ADHD, fetal alcohol syndrome, drug babies, you get the picture.

Each and every kid within the Special Ed dept had an FIE, their Full and Individual Evaluation which is their life history basically. Reading these was required within our dept to learn about the kids and most of them would make you cry.

Thanks for sharing mudslinger. So were most of these kids a result of nature or nurture? Was adhd something that caused the outbursts or just a factor?

Sorry to derail your thread OP but atleast it's getting bumped for someone that qualifies to see...

Both and just bad luck with hormones or a short circuit in their brain.
