First full year living and hunting in Texas. Just got on a East Texas lease. Still learning the ropes after spot and stalk hunting out west. Got a few promising ones on camera

Have you ever hunted Texas? I feel like reading up on TBH could help flatten the curve for ya.

How is the lease setup you got on? Box blinds everywhere?

First time hunting here. Been on TBH for a couple years knowing I was moving here.

The lease is pretty typical from what I’ve seen so far in East TX. Individual areas with a couple blinds for each area. Seems to be plenty of room between spots. I’ve already got some good buck pics from my spot. Of course that is bound to change between now and the season.

My personal experience is the bucks stay in bachelor groups through the first week to 2 weeks of bow season and continue the same summer feeding patterns if they aren't pressured.

Welcome to east TX. It's definitely different than what you're used to, but the rewards can be outstanding when it all comes together.

Hopefully you got on a good club and not a beer lease with 100 other people. That'll make a huge difference in your chances of success.

Thanks, yeah supposedly this lease is going MLD next season and the guy running it is looking for more management minded hunters. So we will see how it goes

Thanks for the info. I think I know where they are bedding and coming from. Just not sure if they are just feeding their way through my spot at night. Was just up there yesterday pushing some cameras out from the spot where I’m seeing the group of bucks. Where I used to hunt out west the bucks would sometimes be a couple miles away in the day time from when you caught them on camera at night. The lease I’m on you can’t just go hiking all over. So I’m just trying to learn my area.

Ran to the lease to top off things and look around after last week’s rain.

I was expecting to see a little pooled up water in places seeing we had 4-5” in the rain gage.

You couldn’t tell it even rained other than it wasn’t as dusty as it has been and it has REALLY greened up.

Remember, this is SE Texas. There is always water somewhere and mud holes. Not right now, fortunately (and unfortunately at the same time). All they typical mud holes are nothing but crusty dry ruts (still).

I now wish I was still on my old Rye lease so I could at least get my gear off without a boat.

Yeah no joke. Kill 'em in early October before they wander off.

Don't be an idiot like me and blow it off because it's too hot thinking he'll be around in November when it cools off, then find out in December both your targets got killed 500 yards away during the general opener. LOL

We still have 2 years before this property is mld. Which me being a bow hunter I’m pretty happy about, less pressure and an early shot at em. They are jumping between two feeders and I am the third point of a triangle between the 2. Definitely going to be ready if I get some daylight photos of them at my spot come October.

Lol I know the feeling. I’ve waited too long sometimes before as well.

Ain’t this the truth.

I am guilty of this every year.

I have had two now that we at my address everyday. Rut craze kicks in, one was killed 2 miles away. The other even further.

Had 2 bachelor groups show up that had been missing since late spring.
Guess what ever they were eating finally got dry and died.
This 6 pt is new, wish he had longer brows, always been a sucker for bigger 6 pts.

These are all from 7/2-7/8. I won't be back to check pics again for another week and a half. For early July pics, it's off to a good start.

Nice deer guys!! I'm so glad to see East Texas get the respect it deserves for growin' big deer!! Us South Texas hunters ain't got nuthin' on this right here!!
When I was a little boy, my dad used to tell me, "Son if the folks here in East Texas ever learn how to protect their deer like they do down South and out West, this will be the best place in the world to hunt and kill big deer." So happy to see it actually happening!!
I even have some decent bucks behind my house in Northern Liberty County... Got 3 bucks in one pic 2 or 3 times this year so far... Never had that before since we bought our place back in '15... I do have a typical redneck "brown is down" neighbor behind me that is pretty rough on me though... I made a deliberate decision that I was not going to get upset and have any sort of feud with him n his wife, but it for sure is aggravating.... The wife is probably the worse of the two... She bragged last year about killing 2 does with one shot under the feeder out her kitchen window... Had an old mamma doe that had triplets 3 years in a row... never saw her after that story... probably was her and one of her yearlings...
Oh well...

Hey Charlie, Im on small acreage in northern Montgomery county and to your point yes we have the genetics just not the management but a lot of that is a population ratio human to deer. We have had this place 3 years and never seen bucks till October. This year we are seeing young bachelor groups this month for the first time. These are just babies and this one is already sporting a nice crown. Hope to see him in a few years. Already at 12 and our deer have mass.

Interesting genetics you got there Jeff!! Love that pic of the young lady holding her mount... Looks like a deer that is suspended in mid air and invisible from the shoulders back...

Thats my daughter with her first. Nov 2020. Here she is with him on the ground. Shot him with the family 30-06 Woodmaster. My dad killed his first buck with it, I took mine, and she hers. She sat in the blind seasons before in other areas to see nothing. She was very excited.
