They did, but every race, they are 1-2% better. And it seems like the other teams just aren't getting that level of improvement race over race. If MB keeps up their pace, they are going to be untouchable by the end of the season. Also, it has been awesome watching the MB team work out this new car. Awesome watching the R&D on the track.

It took until Miami, or arguably Spain, before Ferrari figured out the porposing. And they are going equally slow with catching RedBull speed. At this pace, I don't see them as the #1 team at the end of they year like I had hoped.

Great race in the RedBull arena. I hated to see Checo go out so soon. He has been tearing it up. Add insult to injury and Sainz's Ferrari goes up in flames as he is hunting Verstappen down for a 1-2 Ferrari race. MB finishing 3-4 was not in the cards 20 hours b4 lights out as mentioned above. The mechanics definitely earned their!!!
F1 is exploding globally as every venue is breaking records for attendance and earnings. I hated to learn about the thugs and general hooliganism that was widely reported. All outlets, the teams and F1 are pushing back hard to let folks know it won't be tolerated as they know it will destroy the global cash cow.

Yes! I observed the same and accepted that was the case. I have not read anything about it but I reckon not possibly showing a dead driver on global outlets was a understandable move. I am shocked it was not 10x worse. That HALO has definitely been a life saver the last few years.

What was with all the warnings / penalties on exceeding track limits...was that due to going too wide on the turns??

Big bummer perez got taken out...he was brilliant in the sprint.

Yes, swinging wide in two areas all weekend. sometimes they let it slide but i guess it was reckless.

Did Lewis Hamilton's lap being deleted not stick? (I'm not saying it should , just curious)

I heard the conversation then wondered how he ended up 3rd (which would mean he lapped the field if a deleted lap means what it sounds like)

During "qualifying"....... laps are deleted due to a rules infraction. Going wide is one of many things that would cause a lap to be deleted during qualifying. During a Grand Prix race you are warned 3 times for going wide/off the track/out of the limits of the course. After 3 times the driver is usually accessed a 5 second penalty during the race......they are not placed at the back of the pack. Hamilton did not get a 5 second penalty but was warned about his track limit on that radio call. Many others had been "warned" at that point also.

The other issue worth noting is how well the VER crew timed their strategic pits...it was brilliant, but just didn't have the muscle to stay in front / pace with the red car.

What power plant does redbull have??

Yea what’s up w that? Certainly not the drivers. Your heard 44 say there straight line speed was amazing. They either finally got some decent Ferrari PU or finally figured something out in the wind tunnel. I always figured the WT was where Haas would be able to keep up if not gain an advantage but I see that F1 wind is tricky….

Red Bull Honda I believe with pure RB next year. They use to be Ferrari PU.

Yea that’s what drivers are in puzzlin match about w race stewards. You can’t run wide like they did and definitely can’t over run and gain advantage

Yes Honda! I gotta believe HONDA will come back into F1 with the huge success they have had? Then again Porche and Audi are reportedly willing to dump huge dollars into the sport.

What a race. Seems like MB is getting it dilaed in, Ferrari has engine issues, along with a sticky throttle? One would have thought that problem would have been fixed after Silverstone.

Fun race to watch for sure. Hamilton is going to be a monster after summer break.

whoa..........worth every minute! The big boys stepped up. Verstappen wins with Merc 2 and 3. Ferrari literally fell apart in this race.......not sure if the summer break of 25 days wont come with some changes for the management.........just ugly strategy choices.

Bye bye Danny Ric, dummy should have taken the Indycar ride, even if he's lucky enough to stay in F1 he will be in a backmarker team the rest of his career https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/a...xit-was-agreed

Ricciardo screwed up and has never done anything since leaving Red Bull. He had a good thing going but wanted to be courted by another team and be The Man. Funny how he cited "lack of stability with the team" when bolting to Renault. I realize hindsight is 20/20 but like I said...he had a good thing going.

I wouldn't be shocked if he stays in F1. He has wins and poles in a game where many have neither, but something changed in him after Redbull. Even Christian said to Cyril when Danny was at Renault that something was off, that Danny is better than his finishes show.

Either way, I am not shocked McLaren wants him gone, he has underperformed at McLaren, and often blames the car, when others are dealing with the same issues and worse. I bet he could retire today and live very well the rest of his life if he wanted to. Thankfully, that's not how drivers are wired.

Seems like he spends more time trying to put on a show, and always trying to clown around. Maybe he just needs to focus on his driving and not the cameras. His act is getting old. But he will probably stay in F1, like mentioned before, he has done better than a lot of the other drivers.

REDBULL is on FIRE!!! Gotta give them credit when it is due. Coming from the back of the grid to win is NOT a normal thing in any racing..........especially F1. Ferrari has something bad wrong in communication and car set up. I suspect folks will be fired post season as both drivers are dang good. Merc is definitely missing something HUGELY important also. Not to have those cars running like switch watches after 3 weeks of summer break will not be tolerated. 1.8 seconds off the pace is like a tortoise versus a hare in the world of F1. Toto wont be sacrificed nor either of the drivers. The technical director is going to be grilled over the next 4 days.........he may not be able to handle the heat. I was surprised to learn McClaren was shaking up the TEAM again but at least they are showing they want to be back in the hunt for titles. The biggest surprise is that Gasly may move on from Alpha Turi .........may still have heartburn from being dropped by RB 3 years ago and sent to Alpha Turi which was considered there junior varsity team back then. If he goes to Alpine it would be partnering with Ocon.........i dont see that working out very well. They are both Frenchmen but the relationship is not all that hottt.

Thats a fact! I believe he will stay for at least one more season as seats are becoming open.......unless there is more to the story.

CAnt say I disagree. Time to dig in and focus as the guy is good for the sport. As someone else noted, he has wins, podium places that many drivers never even sniff.

On espn3 post race they asked him about that quote. Alonso dodged responding to it. Hamilton was asked about it and said it was his fault as Alonso was in his blind spot. Took full responsibility but did not comment on other aspect of quote either.

All I know that 7 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES compared to Alonso world titles or even his total wins makes that statement absolutely asinine and comes off as bitter about getting his butt smoked all those years.

...and he refused the mandatory medical exam after he broke down.

I'm no fan of that clown...preaches climate change & people to go vegan while he flies his dogs around the world on private jets.

Why celebs be it sports or hollyweird can't keep their politics to themselves is beyond me...makes it easy who not to support.

I saw a video of Norris talking about how the McLaren drives different than other cars. He said he felt like he was able to adjust and Daniel was still struggling to make the change. I like Daniel, hopefully and he can keep going with another team for a few more years.

From my short time on Australia, he is a pretty typical Aussie. They are just a different breed, ESPECIALLY those guys from the west coast. They will drive an hour (or four) to go to a bar with their mates, get blind drunk, fight their mates, then ride home in the car together with black eyes and busted lips. They are something special LOL

That's just it. He's had the pole 100 plus times. It would be a hell of a thing to have a problem driving in traffic because you can only seem to qualify first LOL. You are spot on about Ferrari. It seems on tracks where they need the downforce they set their cars up for speed, and when they need speed, they are set up for cornering. And then they run hards when everyone else is soft/medium. Both drivers are awesome. Cars are awesome (when set up properly). It's just been terrible calls.

So, Mr. 7 World Titles has to use the 16 year old student driver excuse of not seeing someone "in his blind spot"? Really? No, he and all those top-level drivers are fully aware of their and their opponents' car position at all times. They hit those apexes within fractions of an inch every lap. To use "blind spot" is a pathetic attempt to cover his aggressive move at that corner. If he indeed does NOT know a car is "in his blind spot", well then Alonso is spot-on.

Netherlands is looking to be one heckuva race today!! Ferrari and Merc should be competitive off the pole. The 1st corners are going to be exhilarating and edgy. I won't be surprised if a mid field team gets on the podium either........

Uhhhh....guess u r looking for an argument maybe? I won't participate but the F1 page has noted with video that exact spot has had mishaps of the same tenor and not the 1st for Hamilton in that exact spot. It is a mute issue and Alonso noted his statement was in the moment......we all been there and it's over.

I can't believe Ferrari just messed up Sainz pitstop..*....downright ugly as Checo ran over their tire gun on his exit!
Tire strategy is definitely playing into this race super early. Pit times are all over the place....ouch!!!

Mercedes has / had the best tire / pit plan imo, but the safety cars kinda threw it out the window...will be interesting to see if Ver can overtake on the softs the last laps.

Communication at Ferrari and Mercedes is suspect. Sainz unsafe release was wild. Leclerc showed grit to get a podium. He swallowed Ham up to get 3rd. Soft tires make those cars fly!!!

I am liking that Ferrari throwback yellow!!! The qualifier yesterday was just bizarre....the huge amount of penalties made it unwatchable as none of the times were going to hold up for the final grid placements. Hoping for a great race today but no idea who is going to be crazy bold at Monza!!

Yuck.......the race ended under a safety flag. At least 6 or 7 laps left ............just poor decision by stewards. Go RED flag when only so few laps left. Drivers were making BIG moves during that time. Daggum guys.....get it together!!!!

Disgusting that FIA can't decide on how the decisions are made. Last year the entire championship henged on a very eerily situation.....and the FIA went completely opposite!!! What a crock of crap!

That’s actually a cool thing to watch at the F1 race. Looks like a “Mash” unit coming in to the landing zone at COTA

Exclamation

Guys , i will post story later about a KAREN incident I experienced on race day! I dont have time to be very detailed and precise right now but 3 State Troopers were summoned along with 1 COTA employee. God knows we are truly in a sad place in our nation!

Actually, the wife and I discussed using the service next year. Traffic flow in and OUT were minimum 90 minutes to parking lots. Plus, with what a parking permit costs it is cheaper to park in someones yard and catching a golf cart ride for another 10 or 20 bucks.
