In the end, if yo deer ain’t skinny then corn or golden nuggets as a snack is good nuff.

So many folk take this “management” crap to the extreme

We do both. Some deer don’t feel comfortable jumping in feed pens. Plus you get more tonage with food plots. But, we have the equipment and most importantly the rain typically to support food plots. We plant spring and fall

Planting is cheaper, more beneficial, easier, deer like it better, about the same amount of time spent in labor.
If you have a lawnmower and a 5 gal bucket, you can plant food plots. Naturally if you are talking a lot of acres, then a ATV and a $600 pull behind spreader. Most guys have an ATV and a lawnmower.

maybe check with a couple of the outfits that sell seed for food plots and see when they suggest planting -

Depends on where you are planting. Generally want to wait until after the last freeze date, and then have to take into account when you can get seeds.

Not sure about the "food plots are not growing when deer are developing their headgear".
If I have a fall plot that extends into spring, then a spring plot into summer it is going to cover the whole time their antlers are developing. I think the key is matching the different forages to the area that you are in, specific plants and forage for your location, and it takes time to develop a good program. I am sure their are people in your area that can and will do the work for you. As mentioned, RAIN, is the big driver of all of our food plots.
