    Have you checked for otters, they will clean a lake out.

        We have never seen an otter but they could be there... Some monster gators though.. Several 10' and bigger. One pushing 13'. I'm sure an otter would be in a bind in a hurry...

          No way the freeze killed them with 5' max depth!

          Bass and crappie survive northern winters where lakes freeze over with thick ice for months.
