We could have sent the kids to school, separate (shelter in place) the most vulnerable, and developed herd immunity much faster and at much less cost, both economically and socially.
Lots of other reasons, but that one is the most important.

Shutdown is worse than virus, period. Money rules everything, cannot live without it. People will die from flu, people will recover also from it. Destroy economies, businesses, millions of needed jobs that are needed NOW. And yes, I love my family, my elders, etc and don't want to lose them, so leave your, I'm selfish and uncaring posts to yourself, just know that work has got to carry on regardless, just do it carefully and at risk groups, can continue to shelter in place. Never gonna be a defined safe time no matter what.

Protect the vulnerable. Let the other live.

I agree with you 100%. The scary part to me is that this will be the new norm and there will be massive over reaction every time some new sickness comes along. Shut everything down and send everyone home. It’s crazy.

I don't think he had much choice with the schools...if they opened up, MANY families would opt out & then teachers would have to do both classes & online. Just a guess & Wouldn't bother me one way or another but couldn't send daughter back due to condition so have no dog in the fight.
I do wish TCU went back to school so the boy could finish up & do the walk with the eng class...he has no interest in going back in the summer to walk with the entire class. Just need to get up to FW & clean out the appt.
