Not outdoor related at all but just for kicks thought it’d be fun to hear what everyone’s first vehicle was. Year, make, model and the year you got it. Post a pic if you have one or one like it. Here’s mine:
Not the actual car but almost exactly the same: 1974 Chevrolet Nova. Got it at the beginning of my senior year of high school in 1983. |

1976 Jeep CJ-5 soft top with a manual transmission. Same color but replace Renegade here with “Sidewinder” and the aluminum wheels with white steel mags. Got it in 1984 at 15. Dad’s future deer lease project vehicle turned into my learning to drive vehicle and daily driver. It had its moments of coolness but as a whole, I hated it. Was happy to have it but man was it a beating at times. Loud flapping top, no AC, heater was mediocre at best. Couldn’t lock anything in. The fumes from the exhaust would roll in the back of the soft top where the zippers never went all the way down and choke you out. Headlights would blink off and on occasionally and nobody could figure out why. That sucked on the winding Texas hill country roads at night. It was cool on the beach and at Canyon Lake but those drives home at night could be challenging with the headlight rodeo.
![]() Very basic inside like this. Except I was my swing type bottom knob. Feels like I’m going back in time looking at this. ![]() Last edited by Smart; 01-15-2022 at 11:49 PM. |

An ugly baby blue 1984, purchased in 1998, Ford Ranger that had a crazy vibration between the speeds of 55mph and 65mph. It had a dent on it from the LA riots. I bought it from a friend of mine that had relocated to DFW from Los Angeles.
It served me well. |

1997 white Jeep Cheroke. Similar to the picture. Bought in 2005 with 97,000 miles. Wasnt the prettiest car but got me around until 2011 when i graduated college. Final odometer reading when i traded in for new truck was ~190,000 miles. Besides basic maintenance she really didnt give me too many problems. Kinda miss her now that i think about it.

1979 Toyota Celina supra. I started driving it around in ''93 (pass down from brother). No idea on the milage b/c speedometer & odometer didn't work. It had some pep, but you had to keep pressure on the stick or it wouldn't stay in 5th. After I had an incident with an oncoming car and a telephone pole the passenger side door had to just be wired shut. It got me around just fine though for a couple years.

I didn’t have my own car until I could pay for it myself. I came home from my summer job in Alaska (about 1975) with a pocket full of money and my dad said “whatever you buy, make sure it’s reliable and practical.” I of course knew better than to follow his advice

In 1970 I bought a 1964 Nova SS with a 283 automatic. White with Black vinyl bucket seats. I had a paper route “one of my jobs” and one of my customers owned it. I told him if he ever decided to sell it I wanted to by it. He called me from the Chevy dealer and said they offered him 500.00 in trade and if I wanted it for 500.00 it was mine. I was beside myself. Wish I still had it!

I bought a 1970 El Camino in August of 1976 for 1500.00. It was my senior year. I was working part @ Winn Dixie for 2.20 an hour after school/weekends and had saved enough money to pay cash but I borrowed 500 to help establish my credit. Paid it off in 6 months.

Pic is one very similar to mine....It was our hunting vehicle but became my first car when I turned 16 in 1986. Mine was all white with an orange/yellow and black stripe and 33" tires. I loved/hated that thing. It had a rare 4cylinder engine and broke down all the time. In the 3 years I drove it I had to rebuild the engine (new rings, mill the head etc), rebuild transmission (with a lot of help from my Grandpa) and it was always having exhaust issues due to everything vibrating lose. It taught me to save my $ and buy a more reliable vehicle and also taught me that I didn't want to be a mechanic for a career!

A 1982 delta 88 Oldsmobile. It belonged to my grandmother and when she passed I got it to drive to school in 1993. It was white with rust spots. Ugly as all get out but that thing could move. I definitely was not the cool kid in that car

1989 Blue Ford Ranger. My dad drove it for a few years, the my sister drove it for a few years, then I drove it for a few years, then my brother finally drove it for a while. I think my dad finally sold it for $800. I remember taking it to the deer lease one year and putting a huge dent in it when I was taking down a feeder, and one of the legs fell and put a huge dent in the side of the bed.

77 Chevy LUV that I spent the summer of my Jr year rebuilding. Entire front end was thrashed, owners wife basically ran it under a trailer.
No pics of it, but I did buy/restore another later in life. Brought back a lot of memories. Tiny, fun to drive, but rougher than a cob. |

First vehicle? A 1965, 90cc Honda motorcycle. Got that back in 1969. I’ve graduated to bigger and better bikes but I’m still riding.
My first car was a 68 Ford Falcon station wagon. Paid 200 dollars for that in 1971. Dad said, “I know it’s only a station wagon and not a cool car but it’s yours and it’s paid for.” I said, “Naw dad, it’s great, black out the back windows and throw a mattress in the back, it’s rockin.” Dad wasn’t impressed. |

Yours was the classy model. 1959 Chevy Biscayne, bought for $100 in 1966. They're kinda sharp now but were the ugliest car on the road back then IMO. Was better than walking. |
