    The Rut

The bucks are just now starting up here, but the doe don't seem to be accommodating them "yet".

I've got a couple good ones figured out, and will be trying to throw them a trick this weekend.

Going after one with the ghillie suit here at the home place in the morning, then headed to the farm tomorrow afternoon to the petting zoo blind. Rinse & repeat on Sunday.

I think I have better than a 50/50 change of tagging a good buck this weekend. Maybe. We'll see.

One of the good things about having a feeder close enough to the house is to watch, and see whats going on. I've watched bucks chasing doe for the past 3 days, but the doe aren't standing for them at all.

It also gives me a real good idea of the time frame I need to be out there after them.

          Thanks.

I need to hit the sack. 4 a.m. is gonna come quick.
It's not a long walk, but it's a tricky walk in the jungle of shinnery in the dark, and I need to have time to dawn the ghillie, and get set up at least an hour before daylight.

Well I'm in Missouri for general season and it's cold and windy with very few deer around.
Last two years they started rutting hard around Thanksgiving week at our ranch. I'll be back before then.

Just got back in the house.

Saw 6 doe this morning, but no bucks.

We'll see what happens over at the farm this afternoon/evening.

Rutting in Gonzales county almost hit a nice one at noon on Thursday and got a 3 pt last night with my f250.

The bucks are definitely not into any serious rut around here yet.

Just finished cleaning, and cutting up a pig.
Killed two, but left one where she lay.

Saw over 100 deer this afternoon. All in the wheat field behind me, but they never came close, because I was covered up with pigs from 1:45 till after dark.

I turned out my new bull yesterday into a pasture with 27 cows...don't know if that cow was standing for him or just a hit and run, but all indicators lead to the "RUT" taking place there!

I have video of both pig kills.
I'll try to post it tomorrow sometime.
