I have a 2001 F250 7.3 for sale. Info in classifieds
The wife and I bought one of these for our daughter’s first truck about 18 months ago out in advance of her getting her license. The paints faded and it has some dings but has otherwise been great.
I love me some 5.9 CTD’s but those 7.3 PSD’s are tough to beat.
Lly/lbz here my lly has 340k and gets used. I average 1k miles a week not including weekends. Fuel filter every other oil change and so far 7 of the 8 injectors are original set
I had a 2009 Ford 6.4 ( never had a problem with it) I should have never sold it and drove it till it exploded and then slapped a Cummins 5.9 in it
IMO the super duty’s got to much junk under the hood a 5.9 cleans that up
Anything 7.3. Runs forever and unlike a dodge you can keep the trans holding for a long time. 343,000 on mine and going strong. Cummins are nice but those pesky transmissions...
Honestly, my opinion is you are getting yourself into a money pit by going older just so you have a diesel. A properly geared, newer gas engine 3/4 ton or 1 ton would be the way I would go, unless he is hauling 10,000 lbs plus in trailer, gear, and horses.
The reason being. Electrics don't last forever in any vehicle. There is no bigger PITA than when a window switch, or door lock, or heater fan, or you name it, goes bad, and then it needs fixing. Spending days tracking down wires to figure out which one broke, and where, sucks. Unless you kid also wants to be a mechanic, I would go 2010 or newer in gas.
