Looks like we got some timely rains around Wilbarger County last week. Should be good for food plots.

Based on the number of pigs we saw Saturday morning, i imagine the pigs would eat every army worm that showed its miserable head.

Just got a text from rancher. Much rain happening in Wilbarger County. Most of our food plot planting is done. Wheat should come up nicely. Fingers crossed.

Got some good pics off one of our pastures we hadn't had a camera on previously. Hopes remain high for this season.

A picture said 46į just now. Looked like it rained most the day by all the new standing water.
Gonna delay planting which might be good because of the worms. Should be setting the stage for some monster skeeters!

This thread is going no where lol. I hope it's the lull before now season.
We got our 5 new food at feeders seeded and ready for rain. Also got the 300 acres of wheat in too.
Putting a hex and WHAMMIES on the army worms.

I havenít been since late August and wonít make it back until Oct 9-11. Cell camera shows a lot of pigs and few deer. I should have learned my lesson last year. Fool me twice, shame on me. Thinking about taking some buckshot the first morning and seeing how many I can get.

Ryan, hog panels should be in your near future. Throw it up after your first morning hunt. The deer's will love ya and be in there that evening.

I went out this weekend w/ the wife. I was hoping to hit a few doves, she wanted to try to kill a pig or coyote. Very few doves were flying. No birds killed. We sat in a blind Saturday evening and saw several pigs. I big one, 185+/- lbs. came out and came to us. Naturally, she didn't want to shoot. So i grabbed the gun and was waiting for a shot. In the meantime, a HUGE pig came from the same place as the first one. I was waiting to see if the bigger one would get in shooting range. He zigged when we needed him to zag. So, i get back on the first pig, and you guessed it, made a bad shot. He ran off and we couldn't find him. I always feel bad when that happens. Oh well. Gotta check that rifle to see if it was me or the machine. I'm sure it was me.

There's a big black pig that has a bullet w/ his name on it. Through the end of the season, when i go to that pasture, i'll have my trusty Sendero 7mm. The hunt is on.

It is LUSH green out there. Good times.

I know it should be. I actually have 12 panels sitting at camp. I just ran out of time in August to build it.

Everything looked good at our place over the weekend, except all the dang pigs! There are 5 less of those, and I'm sure I'll end up wasting arrows on a couple more Saturday, but all in all my crap is all ready to go.

We're gonna see how Snoop likes playing baseball while I go try to shoot his deer.

So i go out Saturday morning, perched in quad-pod a full 1.5 hours before sunrise, 1 hour before shooting light. About 10 minutes later i hear tromping through the woods, then snap, crackle, pop of corn being eaten in the darkness below. As time marches on, more and more snap, crackle, pop. I begin to see shadows moving in the dark. At one time, maybe a dozen shadows moving around. A couple of the shadows are noticeably larger than the others. Time is slowing down by the minute, and the sun seems to go back down. Finally it begins to get light enough to see. Yes, just as the deer disappear up the hill. Headed to the feed pen above. I checked the camera card in that feeder pen later in the day. You guessed it. Good times. Maybe next time.

Notice the bucks scrapping in the background in the top pic.

Slow slow slow on the deer movement. I got skunked everytime out, which is a record for us. I got blown at which is very rare. To make it worse, I was down wind of them when they blew at me. I think it was one of those mornings where it was to still. None the less it was fun being out in the brush. Got some chores done that we've put off till cooler weather and the last minute of course. The wheat is up 4-6 inches and looks good. No army worms yet knock on wood.

Saturday morning everything came together. Iíve been watching this buck for 4 seasons. Last year he was a main frame 9 and on our no shoot list. 7:50am, 15yd shot, 50-60 yard trail job. When I was walking up to him, my heart jumped when I saw movement. I could see his belly and sitting there between his legs was a bobcat licking blood off of him. I yelled in surprise and the cat hauled butt.

I think youíll enjoy it! This is my third year on this lease. The guys I hunt with have been here six. I think this area is a little under rated for the deer hunting honestly, but That keeps it from being too over hunted so I donít mind!

Well Iíve seen about 10 deer this morning. Two small bucks kept pushing everything away from the feeder. Pretty happy to be seeing so much activity since the feeders been slinging less than 48 hours.
