Default Epic Gator Hunt

Well I had this written up but lost it.

Hit the water this am at 6:30. Excitement was high. First set was a knockdown and had a gator as the line was stretched out but empty, no bait either. Rebait and moved on. Second line was the one with gators under when we left last evening, zero, no knockdown. Third line knocked down, big gator, all tangled in weeds, finally got weeds cleared and gator came right up and quick perfect shot by one of the boys, 10’ gator in boat!! Now we we hootin and hollerin big time. Very excited. Fourth line knocked down, stretched out in open water. Start pulling and bigger than other gator we just landed comes up. Fighting like a bull. Fighting so hard and so much I drop line couple times and start over not wanting to horse him. Almost had a shot 2 times and just too crazy. Third time to top and he goes crazy and hook pulls. Dang!! Reset and take a break.

Snagged small gators 2 times but didn’t hold enough for shot but exciting anyway. Like 5’ ers. Back to lines, final run and pulling them up. One more knockdown and the last line has gator, again open water and green gator! This time I just horsed him, took forever for the shot seemed like. No taking any chances with 11 year old shooter. Must be safe and perfect. Well he nailed him and both boys scored nice gators, this one was 8’.

We had so much fun! tPWD peeps were awesome and very helpful. Met 2 TBH guys and they were very helpful. Learned a ton on this trip. Learned that chicken in a 5 gal bucket for 3 days smells like a portapotty located in the bowels of hell in summer! We all have a blast and the twins will never forget this trip for sure!

Need help with pictures as my phone won’t resize.

Rex, Stephen sent me the one pic with the boys and gators on the dock. If you’ve got more, just text them to me and I’ll upload for you. So happy y’all had success though. That’s awesome!

That’s awesome, glad y’all scored on a couple. I must have been lucky, neither of ours fought at all. Pulled both right up and they just sat there while we popped them. Going to put in for my son for this hunt.

Default gator meat

Had my gators cut up at the place next to JDMurphree. Have in cooler iced down. Any tips or methods on how to cup up further? Should i cut all into nuggets for frying? Freeze in water like fish?

I've always done nuggets and froze in water like fish but ask Todd if you can get him away from the teal! He should know!

We cut ours up into nuggets and small steaks. Everything was vacuum sealed and frozen for later. We also separated the jowls and steaks from the small pieces we cut up. Wanting to make some gumbo or something similar with some of it.

Default Lizard Hunt

Thanks guys! It was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions this morning. When we showed up to check our line the weather was starting to turn bad so we figured it was all or nothing. Much to our dismay when we got to the bait sight we found our pole had fallen down with all the wind over night and nothing had touched it. We were pretty bummed but spooled up our line and were about to head back when a gator in the distance caught our eyes. It was a big one, not 100 yds from where we had hung our bait too. But again it was starting to pour and knew the biologists were probably going to call it, so we headed back to the boat ramp. When we arrived we told the biologists what we had seen and his response was to hurry back out and hang the line as we had until noon! So we hauled butt and got her hung but didn’t see the big boy again while we were out there. By this time it was really coming down so we headed back drenched and sat in the truck for an hour waiting for it to clear up.

I told my son we would check it every hour or so until about 11:30 and then we’d just have to point the truck north and head home.

So at 9:30 we made our first run out to check. As we idled up we could see a pretty good gator hanging out 40 yds downwind of the bait so we killed the motor and beached the boat. I snagged my binoculars out of my dry box and we began to watch in agony for the next hour and a half. The gator would ease up to the bait and bump it with her nose and then back off and just sit 10 feet from it. So many times we just knew she was about to grab it and go, but nothing. Finally at 11 she took the bait!! We waited for 20 minutes to make sure she got it all the way down and the rest is history

We were there this weekend and my son Wyatt got a 10’8” gator! We watched him steal our bait late yesterday afternoon and baited it again right before we had to leave at 5:30. Got there this morning and it was line down. If someone can help I can share a couple of pics.
