    6' x 12' Trailer Modifications

I bought this trailer last Saturday from a fellow TBH'r, aggieswh. Thanks again Scott!

It wasn't exactly what I wanted but it is now. I didn't get a picture before I did any work on it but here it sits after I finished with it. I did all of this yesterday.

First thing to go was the jack. I hate having to crank a jack all the up and all the way down.

I replaced it with this jack.

I ran some bolts in the old holes to keep the threads from rusting out. You never know, I might start liking long winded jacks again.

Next up was a lift kit. I got this idea from another thread here. Thanks to that guy for posting that. I think the best part about it is the trailer is now level when it's hooked to the truck. Before and after...

Adding brakes was next. Pulling this with my big truck is not an issue. However, I mainly bought this little trailer to pull with my Nissan Frontier and it needs help when stopping when a trailer is hooked up to it.

The last thing to do was add a tie down for my Gator. Here it is on the trailer with the center line of the trailer marked.

With the trailer marked I took a 1'' hole saw and drilled through the 2'' square tubing.

I then inserted this bushing in the hole...

and welded it up. This sleeves the hole so the square tubing doesn't collapse when you bolt down through it.

The 3/4'' shank on the trailer ball was to short so we had to remedy that.

All welded out with a little cold galv on it and it's all done. I've ran this same setup on my 16' trailer for a long time and it sure makes tying it down very easy. It helps to have a level trailer also. Just put the Gator in neutral and push or pull it to get it in position to hook it up.

WOW...nice work Dennis. That's a very interesting tie-down method with the hitch assemblies.

                            Thanks, Joel. It works great.
