    Pronghorn Success in West Texas

Two weeks before the season opened, a buddy of mine got the chance to get pronghorn permits for out near Bledsoe, TX. I've never hunted Pronghorn but pretty much decided I'd do it as I'd likely not get another chance like this.

We set out on Friday and got to scout the two permit areas. We saw antelope on both properties so that was a good sign. Got up the next morning and started chasing a group we glassed from the other side of one of the properties. I ended up chasing them for about 1.5 miles to see them leave the permit area. As I turned around to start hiking back ... this guy was just to the other side of where I lost the other group ... staring at me...126 yards away.

He ran about 15 yards after the shot and I have my first pronghorn ever. Pretty happy with him.

Picture is misleading...the hair behind the entry wound is long and matted up with blood. The entry wound is just to the right of that area that looks like it was split open by an RPG ... about 2" left of where the blood starts.

The rifle was a .30-06 with Winchester 180gr PowerMax Bonded. FWIW, this is one of the most devastating bullets I've ever shot.
