What is the normal life for a set of Chevy Diesel batteries?
My batteries are 4 years old. About 65000 miles on this set of batteries. If it matters 2015 2500HD 4x4 Diesel. I loaned it to my son and he took it to college and it wont start. Said it is just clicking. He is 4 hours away. |

4 years I would not be surprised if they are at the end of life. Cold weather is hard on them. If I don't plug in my 06 or use the glow plugs it will kill the battery quick. Have him jump it check for any lights left on see if it dies again.

In December I replaced the batteries for the first time on my 2016 Duramax.
This cold snap did your batteries in I’m afraid. You’re looking at about $550 for both of them. |

I do…. 2 more of them. Lol
Life long Chevy driver in one way or the other, some good (from long ago)…. Most garbage. And I don’t mind telling people if it helps them I’d try a parts store battery op if they stand behind them and are cheaper. If same price I’d go back delco just due to a better fit |

4-6 years is pretty good for truck batteries. The big freeze in ‘21 killed the batteries in my ‘17, and my wife’s ‘16 Toyota.

It’s not about mileage but rather time. 4 years is about all you get out of batteries with the temperatures they endure in Texas. In the critical infrastructure business we recommend replacing batteries in the 4th year.

I drive a Dodge and the first set of batteries that came with it new lasted 7 years!!! After that it has been about 4 years consistently. Issue is it always seems to happen in the winter and they usually don't show much sign before they die!! They work, work, work then don't!! Just had to replace 2 last week in fact. Wife was driving it and all was good, went out running errands and started, stopped multiple times, then wouldn't even crank it a full crank and were dead.......

I had that exact truck. 4 years is about normal. Also check the terminal connections. I had a bolt strip out of one and ate up the post before I realized it.

Between my wife and I, we’ve owned ford, chevy, and dodge all bought new. When they hit 3 years or so the battery(s) give it up. I had a set of optima’s go 9 years once. I’m told their quality ain’t what it once was. Now a days I go buy house brand AGM batteries.

Bought new in 2018 I replaced the first set at 2.5yrs and 80k miles. Lost one battery so replaced both with AC Delco. 75k more miles and 2.5yrs on second set so figure any moment I'll be looking at replacement. So far they have been fine this winter.

4-5 years for diesels truck batteries is about what I've usually gotten, found the best deal at Batteries Plus for some Duracell's with 3 year warranty, about $375 +/- out the door with cores turned in. Just bought a new Duracell from them for my 08 2500 suburban as well, cheaper than even the Walmart batteries.

The best thing about buying batteries at Walmart is they are everywhere if you need a replacement, I've had great luck with them. Batteries Plus stores are few and far between. I bought a battery at O'Reilly's in Colorado when the one in my GMC Acadia died on vacation about 5 years ago. They replaced it again before the 2 year mark. The replacement died again within a year. They said they would only replace it once under warranty, so I had to pay about $250 for a new one at an O'Reilly's in Massachusetts. It was dead about 3 months ago, but did take a charge. BTW, GM put the battery under the floor behind the passenger seat. It's a real pain to change out. |

As others said, normal. I am giving my batteries a shot this go round, and putting them on a trickle charger when at home. We will see if it helps in 4 years.

4-5 years on any standard automotive battery’s like others have said, we run Walmart’s and they’ve been great so I’m sticking to them.

It depends on a lot of factors. I used to smoke a battery in 2 years, max. I was driving and idling a lot, especially in the summer.

Not funny, I saw this thread last night and thought yup my batteries are on 4 years, probably will need some soon. Worked at home all week and the truck has been sitting. I went out today to run an errand and guess what, dead batteries. Son of a gun.

I had a travel trailer with an Interstate battery that went bad at 14 months. Interstate refused to warranty it in any way. An employee at the local auto shop that was the Interstate dealer said he'll never run Interstate batteries because of the issues they have seen and Interstates refusal to warranty their batteries most of the time. |

Recently had to buy a battery for a 2015 Camry. Second one and boy the cost has gone up! Quote from O’Reilys was $285. Fortunately, I was at the dealership and had a coupon for $140. Battery prices have gone up since I purchased one five years ago.
