2021-22 east texas season

I'll make my last hunt for the season in the morning. No prospects but I still have my trophy tag for this lease in my pocket. Probably shoot one more doe unless I see something else I like.

I hunted Thursday and Friday and saw a LOT of deer. Thursday morning I had 9 different bucks eating hand corn down a cut through some thick brush. Friday morning I stalked up within 40 yards of a broken off 8 point and a beautiful piebald spike.

The deer are hungry and hitting the hand corn hard!

Good report. I’m seeing the same thing. Bucks are grouped up and still interested in the ladies. All on corn and protein. Older bucks are still solo on my place.

Finally got to hunt in December yesterday…. $150 in feed a week and 1 sit… nada. Should have took a kite

I’ll take another nephew pig hunting this evening. But don’t know if I’ll even be able to go again in general season. Found the absolute perfect tree to move Lola’s ladder stand to after general for youth season. If I don’t kill main event I want her to.

Her stand that was so hot, is all doe and scrubs. They will be cut off feed bill Monday if no shooters on camera. It’s mainly doe year round there anyway except November. It was hot while it lasted

I ain’t seen kaboom in a long time, he could be gone.

The nice 8 that Lola couldn’t get on, in early season was at her stand 3 times Thursday in daylight….. but we had to look a Christmas lights. Lol

Checked cameras after getting out of the stand last night and had a really good 8 show back up, I thought for sure he'd been taken. So I went and threw out 200 pounds of corn. I've got 2 more days off and will hopefully get lucky here at the end

Well, my season is done. Had a good sit this morning, the small 6 came through again as well as 2 doe, and a bobcat.

It was a good year, got a doe in Van Zandt count and a spike in Cass county. Wasn't able to get on any of my target bucks in Anderson county though. Looking forward to next season already.

Dang, thats a bummer man. Its cool you got some meat in the freezer.

Hopefully next year is better. That is what I am hopping.

Not looking good for me at the moment to get a last sit in this season. I will be rationing the last couple packages of venison I have from last season.

A nice 10-point I've been hoping to catch up with at our farm has been around of late. I wasn't' planning on going back to the farm at all this season but he's big enough I'm giving serious thought to one more attempt this weekend.

Really hoping this cold snap gets them up looking for carbs.

Hunted 1 sit all December. I don’t know if it’s ve even worn a jacket in tree all year. Lol. Made my final move of the season this afternoon in plans for the front this weekend. It’s a nasty red oak with multiple trunks and vertical limbs, but I’ve watched deer under it about every time I hunt where I can see it. Last 2 times I’ve seen main event he walked under it (just a trail in a ridge, but has several scrapes under it). Always wanted to be in it but didn’t want to risk getting in there and out, I got nothing to loose now, so ALL IN!

I hoped this 70% chance of rain would wash out any scent I left…. Ya know how much we got?…. NONE!

It’s the best plan I got…. And it ain’t that good. Lol. If they miss wind direction like they do 1/2 the time, the. It’s all a waste anyway, other than it’s prepped for a possible future hunt

Knowing he was bedded close, yesterday I decided to try to backtrack him. I had a choice between two trails and wouldn’t you know I picked the wrong one. I bumped him on the way out. I don’t think he smelled me so I think I’m good. Hopefully he mistook me for the big boar that’s been raising sin in the area. I’ll be after him tomorrow evening. I’ve never back tracked one off of corn like this. Anyone have success like that?

It's been tough at our lease the past few days with only a few deer seen by 5-6 hunters. The hot weather and new logging activity pretty much shut down the daytime action, but the deer are hitting the corn hard at night.

That’s how I hunt almost exclusively. Bait them somewhere then go find them in shooting hours $&@% waiting on them when they ain’t gonna show. lol

Well that’ll do it for the general season. Still got the rest of the month at the lease though, but i’m pretty much ready to start working on next season.

Enjoyed the season, probably my most active in several years. Looking forward to next season already, my brother and I are going to try some of the no-till food plotting this next season. See everyone again in about 6 months!

I hunted Thursday through Saturday and saw 2 deer. Loggers have been working almost nonstop on several sections of the lease and have the deer pretty skittish.

It was a great season even with all the logging activity and hot weather. Even though I didn't kill any target bucks, I passed up more mature bucks in bow range than any season before and made some good memories.

Time to kill some hogs and coyotes!

We seen 1 spike this morning. Smallest horns buck I’ve ever seen 1 side looked like a gumdrop and the other a master lock key…

Skunked this evening. No less than a pallet of corn here since September. Hogs that I’ve never seen in person and neighbors have ruined this place. I’m scratching my head
Kaboom went missing 2 weeks into bow season and he has lived on the place 365 for past 3 years
Main event was on camera 4-7 days a week until Christmas night, and is now missing

Got a new neighbor that got permission about thanksgiving. He’s a complete idiot and works nights so he has all day to “hunt”… Lord only knows how many piles of corn he has and where

I averaged more deer sightings PER DAY on every public land I hunted than I seen all season on all my private property that’s fed year round.

Card I pulled the other day had Main event alive and putting weight back on. He’s broken 1/2 of his left brow off. IF he walked in front of her tomorrow I’d tell her send it! 900+ pics that week all but about 10 are nighttime… and those day light were a family of doe and a new family of pigs with tiny babies… which is great. Cause I just love pigs. So cute

Just a little bit left for the season. Hate to see it go but I'm ready to fish. Not a single buck taken on our place this year and the deer worth killing are still alive as of the 14th.

Threw some rye grass yesterday, put out 15 bags of corn, 150 lbs of protein and 100 of cotton seed (that I scored for 8 bucks a bag) today. Might come back and hunt pigs next weekend depending on the weather. Finally feeling like deer season on the last day

Lola “Deleted” a pig (her words) this evening and I solved the mystery of the $&@*hole season… (already knew)

Her pig ran 60-75 yards north and died 30 yards from fence….. where neighbor hung a pipe feeder on fence and had a ghetto blind built with pallets up the fence to the west. He only has a 80-100 acres over there… so might as well I bet he could see my feed pen from his blind. He won’t next year…. In fact I bet he don’t see anything next year
