Default GMC 0% - not so

A new tactic discovered in the auto industry. I ordered a new Yukon today and wanted the 0% I see in all the ads. It was the 0% that moved the needle on a new ride.

They can't guarantee me 0% as they can't finance a car that's not there. It's a 9 month wait and will be a 2023 model.

Ok fine, but there are no Yukons in inventory.

So no 0% apr...unless offer is still available in 9 months. Which I doubt with these markers and inflation.

Can you order it with the expectation that the 0% apr will still be available and then it it’s not, cancel the order? I’ve never bought a vehicle that wasn’t there on the lot so not sure how that works. I’d imagine they’d try to lock you in without the convenience to opt out just like they do with every other major purchase like that.

A bit shady, yes.

However, if the 0% is a manufacturer incentive, it is pretty standard that if you order a vehicle, the manufacture incentive is only applicable to the month the vehicle actually arrives and you purchase. So, what is being offerred today, doesn't mean much at all.

It's really tough on the buyer in this market. Ordering a vehicle is 4-6 months on the good end and more speciality vehicles even longer. Dealerships provide almost no clarity on how long the ordering process will take and there's very little communication in the middle. Heck, most claim they will honor the price at time of order, but even that gets a bit shaky going out so far.

I used Sewell and was 0 down 0 deposit. Basically I get first right of refusal when my build arrives.

So no risk, he said it will sell next day if I refuse. I have bought a few trucks from same dealership. Best dang service I have ever had.

Might as well get it. You’ll more than likely be able to flip it for a profit if you didn’t end up wanting it if there really is a 9 month wait.

With interest rates on the upswing. They obviously donít have a way to figure how much extra to charge you for the vehicle to cover your ď0%Ē financing.

Wife had an Infiniti from Sewell, when she went to trade it in they didn't have what she wanted but Grubbs did. We miss Sewell.... everything they do is 1st class. Never had a problem with their maintenance/service dept, always had a loaner available for her (even during the pandemic).

I ordered an F150 in January, they offered 0% or 2000.00 off the order total.
Truck will be delivered 27th of July. Sales guy says the 0% is still good to go. We’ll see!

Ford has started signaling that they may use the online ordering model with EVs... traditional dealerships are upset.... then they play games with customers like the hide n seek with 0% APR... surprise when people don't like going to traditional dealerships!

Was shopping for Fords earlier this year and I got nothing but games from the dealers in D/FW... and I have family in the business! I bought my 2022 Ram from Mark Dodge in Louisiana... hands down the easiest car purchase I have ever made in my life. Glad it didn't rob me of the joy of a new truck.

If it doesn't exist then don't offer the interest rate. It is common knowledge that most vehicles are on order status so I'm guessing dealerships and manufacturers know. We just got something in the mail from Chevy and went to get a vehicle we had ordered today. "Oh that mailer is only for '23 vehicles which aren't out yet".... It is legal but it doesn't make it right.

That model comes out in 2024. They are retrofitting the check engine light to fit in the headlight. Those burn forever

I'm waiting on one to arrive that has a manufacturer customer cash incentive offer ($6300) that expires on July 5th. Car has already been shipped and is supposed to arrive by the 7th but maybe sooner. If it doesn't arrive by the 5th the discount won't apply. The dealership says the manufacturer will probably either extend it or issue a different incentive equal to or better anyway. If not, I'll walk.
Oh and I tried to go ahead and finance so I could lock in the incentive. They won't finance til it arrives. I called several dealers, none will. Even my bank and my credit union said nope.

Exactly! Sounds good but you just ate a good chunk before you ever signed the papers. If youíre gonna pay cash or pay it off in a year let em finance you for some astronomical rate they feel like they got you on and pay it off next month.

So when do you negotiate the cost? Do you start what you want and haggle later? You pay the cost one way or another but with no guarantee interest rate I wails be firm on the other costs.

We negotiated the entire deal, including a soft pull credit check to determine approximate interest rate. We have not finalized anything yet. If the car arrives by July 5th and the incentive is still the same we'll do a hard credit check and finalize at current interest rate and out the door price we already negotiated. Like I said, if it arrives after July 5th and incentive is less and they don't adjust price to meet the out the door price we agreed to, I'll walk.

Not really the dealership fault they don’t create the incentives they only offer them and with out a vin they can’t sell it. When I worked in the car business we could sell a car as on or off the lot as we could access the vin. (Dealer trade) Only a trick if they said otherwise. But I am sorry for the inconvenience not trying to be a jerk

And you sign closing papers after final inspection at the title company in most cases.
But you don't get the keys to the house until the builder verifies the loan was funded/AKA the money has been deposited and it is paid for and the home exists.

You cant buy a vehicle if the vin don't exist. The manufacturer sets the rebates inclusive of 0% and is subject to change monthly.
What is the bank going to loan against if there is no vin number?
Dealers don't sell in transit vehicle's because THINGS happen to in transit vehicles and the tracking of delivery drivers is very difficult in today's world.

While both of these may be true, the real issue is that dealerships will not finance a vehicle they haven't received yet. At least I haven't found one that will, and I've tried several. As I stated in the other post, my bank and credit union wouldn't either. The vehicle I negotiated a deal on two weeks ago is "in transit" with an eta of 07/07/22 and has a VIN, they just won't finalize financing/contract til they have it on the lot.
