Default Incredible last week in Alaska!

Let me start by saying I am very blessed with incredible friends. Just got back from 7 days in Enchanted Lake Lodge in the Katmai national park. Caught a few Char and a few Lake trout but the emphasis was on rainbows and man they didn’t disappoint. The hatch was happening and we had several days with literally hundreds of rises. Caught 40-60 a day and the majority were 16” plus with numerous 22-24” fish. Biggest of the trip was 28”. I had never picked up a fly rod until last week but it won’t be the last time!

Same here. Enchanted Lake Lodge and is an incredible place. Every day is a float plane trip of about 8 hours. Trips vary from high level hiking to low level float trips. Being a newbie and fat old man, I opted for the easier trips and do not believe I missed out on a thing. Completely remote, 5 star lodge that has got customer service dialed in.

Sounds like you have some great friends and an amazing trip.

Were they smashing mice?

28Ē has been a number I cannot get past with trout/char. Quite agitating when you have several at the 28 mark or a smidge below with several species but canít break into 29+.

PS- we need to work on those fish holding skills

Lol I never did get the hang of holding those slippery suckers! Guides made it look so easy! I personally didn’t catch any on a mouse but one of the guys daughter caught several on one. My biggest was 25”. Can’t imagine a 30”! Oh and yes I am VERY fortunate to have some amazing friends that have taken me on some incredible adventures.

Lol We had been educated on the bears and supposedly they are not concerned with humans. That helps but the guide was taking the picture and I knew he was well armed so that also helped. Only problem was that I am pretty sure I was the slowest of the three of us and thatís never a comforting feeling around a bear!

I knew absolutely nothing about fly fishing before last week and still don’t know much but I did inquire about rod and reel setups for bass fishing and the guide said we were using 7 wt rods. Most of our group used the lodges equipment and according to the fly fishing purists in the group, it was top of the line stuff. Heck they even had waders to fit my big *** and size 16 wading boots to fit.

I do take me some big olí broganís! Worst part about them is then you have to put on these huge ďCrocsĒ over the boots to protect the planes and boats and they are so dang big that my feet donít fit in the float plane hardly at all!
