Some of you know that my Mother-in-law suffers from Dementia. We built her a home behind us and she now has 24hr live-in care. She's now almost completely blind, often irrational, perpetually confused and she's scared. She's aware enough to hate her life and tell us she just wants to die. If you've ever seen the suffering, you know that the watching of the progression really takes a toll on folks who love her as well.

I will say that I feel like we, my wife and I along with my BIL and SIL, have done an outstanding job with her care and she's fortunate that we can afford to take care of her like we do. I can't imagine her suffering like she is, but without family around. But there is nothing you can do to give her back independence, liveliness and health.

Long story short....Please say a prayer for us all. We're now 7 years in, but I fear we have a long row to hoe and tomorrow will always be worse than today.
So, we're gonna need some strength, patience, understanding and peace to get through it with our sanity.

Prayers for you and your family. In my experience there is a stretch along that path that is particularly brutal and heartbreaking. That’s when they are still “with it” enough to be aware that they are losing their faculties. I can’t imagine how scary that is. Then there is a tipping point when they no longer understand there is a problem. Sometimes that starts a new set of problems, sometimes it brings a kind of peace. Prayers for peace for her and your family

We lost my MIL in 2020 to it. G-d bless y’all for taking care of family. I’m sorry, no one should have to go through that or watch loved ones go through it.

Man so sorry to hear. I can't imagine having yo watch a loved one go through it. I had a client I Built a mother in law house for and I was there looking at another project recently and her mom had gone way south. She told me if she could legally end it for her, she would. Prayers sent.

Prayers for her and all of your family. Heartbreaking to read and to kind of understand what is going on.

We are just beginning the journey with my dad. He has been steadily getting worse for the last year. Fortunately I have an angel for a wife and we are retired so have time for them. We live across the street so are close and able to deal with the struggles. I am glad to still have them but I dread what each new day brings. It's bad for my dad but he forgets what is going on. The saddest thing is watching the effect on my mom. I've never felt more helpless or sad in my life.

My family will pray for yours! I wish I could help!

Yep. We see it play out on TBH all the time..."Had to put my dog down, but at least she's not suffering anymore". Meanwhile, people suffer through the worst life has to offer with no alternative. I told my kids, prepare yourselves for the fact that if I can help it at all, I will die on my terms.

This is where we are at and it is heartbreaking. Saddest thing I've ever been witness to. Such a tough, independent, strong woman reduced to needing help to find her fork.

My uncle by marriage was the one to step up for my grandpa while he went through this same thing.
