Unhappy Shingles!

Got the vaccine at the prescribed time and years later I developed it. Skin is very sensitive and keeps me awake most of the night. I never developed the blisters though so maybe the shot mitigated it. Still suxx

Had it a few years ago on my right thigh area. Did end up with a few blisters. Dr said make sure you keep them cover and donít let it on your junk. Other than the blisters the skin on my thigh went numb. Still does. Doctor said itís normal and be thankful it just goes numb for a while and not a burning sensation. Shingle suck. Hope it doesnít last long for you. They talked about a vaccination with me but there was not 100% it would come back. I said no thanks.

I will qualify for the shot in about a year. Mine show up on my chest and they feel like they squeeze the oxygen out of me. Miserable. I want the shot.

Not sure when he got it, but the original shingles shot was only about 50% effective. My doctor at the time told me he did not recommend getting it. The newer shots they give now are said to be a lot more effective.

I got the “vaccine” about six years ago. It’s like all the nerve endings are hyper sensitive. And it is different when I breath. I haven’t slept in two days. You can’t get comfortable. Gonna be amother loooooong night for me.

Did you get the one shot or 2 shot vaccine. The 2 shot is supposed to be about 90% effective. But, you can still get it again. I had shingles about 2 years ago. Wasn't too bad, but don't want it again. Painful.

I only got the one shot. Folks I have a light case of this and I haven’t slept in two days. I’m going to doc Monday as soon as I can and get on some anti viral asap.

Ask for some lidocaine cream. A friend of mine said that was the only thing that gave him any relief.

I have had them on my left arm for 1.5 years. There a Bitc*. I have had every thing from Moraine to pregabalon. Not much help. Left hand has it bad, nerve damage. I didn't get my shots in time, $$$$$, but I have both now. You can get it over and over again, even after the shots. I went to bed for months with a glove on my hand so I didn't feel my other fingers, it helped. I have learned to live with the pain and tingling.
I have to sell my compound, in classifieds, as I don't have the strength to pull it backnow.
Hang in there, it will get a little better.

I did and still got this stuff six years later. It hits you from all sides. Thankful that it hasn’t gone full blown. What bothered me is one of the videos I watched said your immune system has to be compromised for this to imerge. How in the hail did my immune system get compromised and I never knew it.

Folks, I don’t know or care where you stand on vaccines. All I know is you do not want this stuff! It hit me outta left field and it’s not fun. Docs office doesn’t open till Tuesday so by then anti virals may not help.
If you’ve had the chicken pox you have the virus in your body. I think me getting the vaccine at 60 mitigated this outbreak. The freaky thing is it can break out on your face, in your eyes, on your rib cage, hand, leg etc. it’s a crap shoot.

My wife gets it often, her Doctor gives her a med that I believe is an antiviral? It usually helps shorten how long she has it.

I think it mitigated the outbreak. I don’t have a full band of blisters going around my right side. It’s spotted. I don’t know how you protect yourself from this mess, I just hope your able to. And again, this is a light case of it and haven’t been able to sleep soundly since this started. The aggravation has been non stop.

I guess Iím somewhat confused, yíall are getting the vaccine and still having a viral outbreak. Am I understanding that correctly? My MIL had the vaccine then got the shingles anyway a few years ago. I thought she was just an exception but it doesnít sound that way.

Exactly. So I’m assuming that it’s a crap shoot. 50/50 isn’t the best of odds in my opinion;however, why didn’t I have a full blown attack if it wasn’t for the vaccine?

Shingles can cause permanent nerve damage. I got them in 2011. And still don't have any feeling in the area they started. Mine blistered up from my right arm pit, across my right pectoral, and to the sternum. Once you get them, you are more susceptible to getting them again. The vaccine will help reduce the probability of reoccurrence or attack, if not help prevent it. And also possibly make it less severe.

Mine looked almost identical to this.

There is the original shingles vaccine then they came up with an improved version a while back called shingrix that is supposed to offer a higher level of protection as I understand it.

Mine is nowhere near that bad and that’s my point. If a mild case has kept me sleepless for 3 days imagine what full blown shingles is like. I still have no idea where this is going from here.

This is correct. The Shingrix is a two shot series. One shot is taken. Then a waiting period of 4 weeks to 6 months before the second is taken. I haven't had a minor flair up since getting them 3 years ago.

I was able to sleep about seven hours last night! It was wonderful. However, I looked at my back and several of these lesions have run together, like a big whelp. And it’s starting to itch now.

Hope they let up soon and you start feeling better. From my research, the newer vaccine has a much higher success rate for eliminating the outbreak. Might ask your doc if getting the newer med will increase your protection. And I agree that the previous shot you got helped reduce the severity of this outbreak.

Again, hope this passes soon.

After reading this thread I am pretty certain I have shingles.

I thought I had poison oak. I have a virtual doctors appointment since I am currently in Arkansas. The pain a itching are really too bad unless I get sweaty.

I got them at the beginning of the year and Iím in my mid 30s. Started off as lower back pain that was out of this world. Then a rash started around my lower back around my waistband and crept towards my junk. The rash then turned to blisters and was unbearable. I finally went to a doc in a box for lidocaine patches (didnít work for me) and an antiviral. Wish I had gone in sooner as the antiviral really helped me turn the corner. I still have nerve damage and scaring in the area. From what I have been told it will only stay on one half of your body and this was true in my case as it didnít cross my spine or go across my belly button. Iím not much on ďvaccinesĒ and have had covid 2Xs without any thought of getting the Covid ďvaccineĒ but contemplating the shingrix as shingles was some of the worst pain Iíve ever had. YMMV and I donít really care who gets a vaccine so not pushing anything. One thing I can say is watch your stress levels as Iím pretty sure thatís was the catalyst for my shingles.

Well I thought I was gonna be the exception but now these things have started to blister up. And yes mine started out as lower back pain. Literally thought I had injured my back at the gym the day before. Then I thought I was having kidney problems. The third day I told my wife “ now I know how it feels to die”. Six days in now and blisters are starting and feels like Mike Tyson worked my midsection over and Chuck Norris kicked me in the center of my back. Still got a sense of humor but this stuff suxx.
