    Archery Elk Success

My son decided to try for an elk tag for the first time this year. Wouldn’t you know it, beginners luck struck in the form a first season draw in Unit 34. What luck!!! I had been considering retiring for some time, and his draw gave me the perfect reason to make my retirement effective 9/1/22, and my last day in the office would be 8/26. Work commitments kept him from going early to scout, but not me and a good buddy who went with us. The first morning of scouting found us looking at three bulls, so we got off to an exciting start. We did a little hiking around and found some fresh sign in most of the areas we ventured into. Long story short, on the 5th day, after a couple of very close calls on other bulls, he found success on a 30 yard quartering away shot on this nice 6x6. Best of luck to everyone this season!
