    Blade metal for knives

    Wanting to get a new knive made and see alot of them are all made from different alloys, 1095 steel, Stainless, Damascus, 5160 steel, whats the best metal, ones to stay away from.

    Depends on what your primary use for the blade is. I’ve got a good buddy that makes some really high quality custom knives and has always recommended stainless over Damascus for skinning animals. Damascus can be a little more high maintenance than stainless.

      No such thing as best steel, more what’s best for you. I personally like carbon steels for the strength and sharpness, down side is it takes more care to keep them from rusting. Stainless is a use and forget about it type of user. Damascus is a fancy carbon knife unless you use stainless damascus.

        I have a friend who cuts and makes knives out of old steel disks that have cut 1000s of acres of Ks farm ground.
        Its good steel, holds an edge but sharpens easily.. imo

          I like CM154, S30V, S35V. CM154 is likely tops for me.
